Problem-based learning

Vs
Project-based learning
What is problem and project-based
learning?

• Problem-based learning involves critical

thinking to examine problems that lack a
well-defined answer. In project-based
learning, students are challenged to develop a
plan and create a product or artifact that
addresses the problem.
Differences
• Project Based Learning focuses on the process
of learning while interacting with peers or
live audience etc than the end product while
'Projects' can be defined as a range of
activities which can be done either in
classroom or at home by parents or a students
over a specific period of time.
Difference
• between problem-based learning and project-
based learning is that students who complete
problem-based learning often share the
outcomes and jointly set the learning goals
and outcomes with the teacher. On the other
hand, project-based learning is an approach
where the goals are set.
Benefits of Problem-Based Learning

• Typically students find it more enjoyable and

satisfying. It encourages greater
understanding. Students with PBL experience
rate their abilities higher. PBL develops lifelong
learning skills.
Benefits of Problem-Based Learning

• It can encourage higher order critical

thinking and de-emphasise memorisation. It
can help student learn what is relevant to the
real world. It can increase motivation to learn
and arrive at a solution. It can provide
opportunities for students to collaborate and
practice their communication and social skills.
PBL - a useful teaching strategy
• The students learn more than just finding
answers, Problem-based learning allows them
to expand their minds and think beyond
what they normally would. Students have to
find answers to questions and combine them
using critically thinking skills to come up with
answers.
Project-based Vs Experiential Learning

• Experiential learning is the key factor of

acquiring knowledge through experiencing
things. ... Project Based Learning is such a
modern teaching method. The core idea of
Project Based Learning is to connect student's
experiences with school life and to provoke
serious thinking as students acquire new
knowledge
Project-based learning (PBL)
• Project-based learning (PBL) is a student-
centered pedagogy that involves a dynamic
classroom approach in which it is believed
that students acquire a deeper knowledge
through active exploration of real-world
challenges and problems.
Project-based learning (PBL)
• Project-based learning is a dynamic classroom
approach in which students actively explore
real-world problems and challenges and
acquire a deeper knowledge.
Project-based learning (PBL)
• Project-based learning (PBL) or project-based
instruction is an instructional approach
designed to give students the opportunity to
develop knowledge and skills through
engaging projects set around challenges and
problems they may face in the real world
Inquiry based vs Project based
• If Inquiry Based Learning is about discovering
an answer, Project Based Learning is about
exploring an answer. The aim here is that
students gain and develop their knowledge
and skills through working extensively to
investigate and respond in detail to an issue
that's engaging and complex, rather than
clear-cut.
IBL PEDAGOGY
• Inquiry based learning is a broad pedagogical
approach which has enjoyed widespread
support by educators and education systems
over the past decade. Inquiry can be defined
as 'seeking for truth, information or
knowledge / understanding' and is used in all
facets and phases of life.
