Learning Insight #4
“Motivating Behavior with Works and Rewards”

According to Mr. Dale Cargenie, “People work for money but go with an extra mile for
recognition, praise, and rewards” For me, rewards and incentives are a must in every
organization; this is how employees are motivated, satisfied with their work, and being
productive.
Why incentives are important? Why rewards are essential? Employees can see that their
company values them and their contributions to the success of their team and the company
when they receive recognition. This is especially important as organizations grow and
change. It helps employees feel secure in their value to the company, which motivates them
to keep up the good work.
I believe that organizational behavior includes how members interact with one another and
organization plays a vital role on how they behave within the organization. I also believe
that one of the factors influencing an employee's behavior within an organization is the
organization's ability to provide motivation through incentives and rewards. Incentives and
rewards are big words for employees, and I consider them to be one of the factors in
becoming motivated and productive at work. Simple gestures and expressions of
appreciation from your organization are extremely motivating and encouraging.
Based on my experience, one of the reward systems that my superior provided is the
opportunity to attend various trainings and seminars that will improve my skills as an
employee- not all rewards are in the form of cash/money, some are in the form of additional
knowledge that will improve your self- personally and professionally. Attending seminars
and trainings really helps me to enhance my skills and become motivated to extend my
hands in our community. We are all aware that public service is always regarded as a public
trust, which is why we should always go the extra mile. To be honest, after almost 7 years
as a public servant, I have received the lowest salary in comparison to my colleagues, but

what motivates me to keep going? It is the way my superior manages me as his employee.
He provided me with numerous opportunities for growth, which I consider as a reward.
With this in mind, I believe that employee appreciation is an important factor in retaining
and motivating employees.
