Learning Insight #3
“Individual Values, Perceptions, and Reactions ”

This topic puts to the test our ability to deal with everything in our organizations. This
could take the form of communication, action, or our ability to adapt to changes and new
experiences. Individual values, in my opinion, depict various characteristics that guide our
behavior based on what we see and adopt in culture. Individual values are desirable goals
that motivate people's actions, implying positive characteristics. Individual values can be
defined as how we respect others, demonstrate personal and professional growth, and keep
what we say. Understanding and identifying individual values in the workplace is
beneficial from an organizational standpoint because these can contribute to the
achievement of the organization's objectives.
Perception is the way how we understand and interpret something, I believe that perception
really affects on how we make decisions and how others accept the decision we make. For
an instance, given that in organization is consist of managers and employees, for example
a manager instructed an employee, and the employee has limited understanding with
regards to instruction. His perception did not meet the qualification of the information to
be understood, the tendency is wrong delivery of message and it cause misunderstanding
and miscommunication. Perception can be identified as a process on how an individual
understand a certain information and message.
Another point of contention is each person's ability to respond. Reaction refers to how
people or individuals responded in a given situation, such as their ability to react during
the receipt or acknowledgement of a message. Because everyone has their own perception,
we all have our own reactions. Based on my experience, reaction can also be the source of
an argument, people have reasons for doing what they do, though the reasons are not always
clear. Reaction can also be defined as a defense mechanism in which a person
unconsciously replaces an unwanted or anxiety-provoking impulse with its opposite, often

in an exaggerated or showy manner. We can also learn about a person's feelings or attitudes
through their reactions.
