ACTIVITY NO. 4
WHAT DOES RELIGION HAVE TO DO WITH CULTURE?
Religion influences culture on how the people see the world, it affects one’s belief and
religion can be define as one’s identity. Both religion and culture surround social
behavior and affect our value system. Religion assists us in our pursuit of happiness.
Religion is part of the rituals and traditions from the past until now. Religion plays a
crucial role for a person in giving a cultural identity. Each religion has festivals,
traditions, mythologies which form a part of the tangible and intangible heritage of the
country. Thus, religion contributes to protect this heritage and adds to the diversity in
the country. It can influence what we believe, how we practice our religion and the way
we think about and experience religious concepts. As our world becomes increasingly
globalized, it is important to be aware of the ways that culture can impact religion.
Religion gives meaning and purpose to life, reinforcing social unity and stability, serving
as an agent of social control of behavior, promoting physical and psychological well-
being, and motivating people to work for positive social change. Religion is a central
factor in shaping a culture. It is related to other factors such as the politics, the
economy, the family, and it interacts with those factors in many ways.

DO YOU THINK CULTURE CONTINUES TO EVOLVE?

Yes, the culture continues to evolve because of socializing with other countries, we tend
to adopt with their culture, and we imitate some of their doings that seems interesting for
us. Natural selection, migration, drift, transformation, and invention are only a few of the
processes that have an impact on the population over time and alter the frequency of
the cultural variants reflected in it. Because cultural features differ, they are passed
down from person to person through social learning, and some cultural traits are more
likely to be passed down than others, cultural change is considered an evolutionary
process. New behavioral patterns, social features, conventions, and values appear as
the culture of the society changes, resulting in the development of new social structures.
Cultural change can be sparked by innovation, invention, and contact with other
communities. By changing social dynamics, fostering new cultural models, and inciting
or facilitating generative action, social conflict and technological development can result
in social change. Ideological shifts and other forms of cultural change may be
accompanied by these social changes. Humans affect future learning and the potential
for cultural evolution by gradually adopting culture in the form of beliefs, values, and
behaviors throughout their lifetimes. The amount of learning possibilities someone is
exposed to during their lifespan has a significant impact on how their culture evolves.

HOW DO WE PROMOTE AND PRESERVE OUR CULTURAL HERITAGE?

Sharing our cultural history with others is the best way to protect it, no matter what it
may be. A nation's natural history and cultural heritage are extremely valuable and
special. It is a persona that may be shared with the rest of the world. The appreciation
of cultural heritage should be communicated through an integrated education approach
in this global society. Sustainability in the preservation of cultural heritage through
education should be encouraged. It is a way of how tangible and intangible cultural
heritage can be safeguarded. Dishes play a big role when it comes to cultures, and the
senses of smell and taste have powerful connections to memory.  As you knead dough
or try to guess the right amount of spices, you might remember meals from your
childhood or holidays. Just reading a recipe can teach you how much ingredients and
kitchen tools have changed. And even if some of them are unfamiliar, others have most
likely become your comfort food or a source of family pride. You can record anything
you've discovered through your research and life, no matter how small it seems. What
you can't do is write down everything there is to know about a culture. Real challenges
and threats do exist, but don't assume that all change is bad. Culture helps people
adapt to the world around them. The world has always been changing, cultures have
always been adapting, and it's up to you to choose a direction you can be proud of.
