A. These motors are used where constant speed is required and starting conditions are not severe.
The various application of this motor is in Lathe Machines, Centrifugal Pumps, Fans, Blowers,
Conveyors, Lifts, Weaving Machine, Spinning Machines, etc.
 The motor that runs in a constant speed when the supply voltage is fixed is Shunt DC Motor.
In this type of motor, torque can be increase without a decrease in speed by increasing the
motor current that’s why it is used for those machine that requires a constant speed.

B. These motors are used where higher starting torque and fairly constant speed is required. The
examples of usage of this motor are in Presses, Shears, Conveyors, Elevators, Rolling Mills,
Heavy Planners, etc.
 The motor that has a higher starting torque and fairly constant is Compound DC Motor. This
kind of motor are capable of developing large amount of torque at low speed that is why it
can be used in that machines.
C. These motors are used where high starting torque is required, and variations in speed are
possible. For example – the motors are used in traction system, Cranes, air compressor, Vacuum
cleaner, Sewing machine, etc.
 Series DC Motor has a very high starting torque compared to shunt and compound. Because
of its high starting torque this motor is not applicable to run without a load and it is also the
reason why this type of motor can be use in heavy machines.
