The Problem and Its Background

Introduction

In a world that crime never stops, specifically in the Philippines which is top 18 (42.36%) in crime

index by country in Asia midyear 2022 https://www.numbeo.com/crime/rankings_by_country.jsp?title=2022-

mid&region=142). The people can sadly say that Philippines is not the paradise hope to lived for.  in a

statement Monday, Sept. 5, said the Philippine National Police (PNP) plans to “hire, arm and deploy”

14,208 new officers next year. If the PNP will succeed in hiring that many personnel, “it will be the biggest

in years,” the House leader said. The PNP will have 227,410 men and women in uniform next year, he said,

adding that the new hires will bring the police officer-to-population ratio to 1:494. The ideal ratio is 1:500.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) never stop recruiting each year to address the increasing crimes in

the Philippines, that’s why the organization also keep increasing the number of law enforcer to fight and

prevention of crimes. Referring to the 1:494 ratio, Recto noted that this is only “on paper”. “Kasama sa

bilang ang mga nasa headquarters at administrative support. Mas mababa ang bilang ng mga pulis na in

any given hour ay na naka-duty (The number includes those staying inside the headquarters and

administrative support. The number of police who are on duty in any given hour are fewer),” the

Batangueño said.
In this school year 2022-2023, in Manuel V. Gallego Foundation Colleges Inc. The researcher noticed the

thriving number of freshmen students particularly in Bachelor of Science in Criminology. In the past school

year the freshmen students have three blocks, while in this present year it increased up to seven blocks.

This descriptive research will seek for the reason of increasing number of freshmen college students school

year 2022-2023 in Manuel V. Gallego Foundation Colleges Inc. (MVGFCI. The primary research instrument

that will be used in the study is questionnaire-checklist. The researcher is Dirangarun, Benjamin U.

The findings of this study particularly will benefit the incoming high school graduates to get bird’s eye view

on what future they will have if they attend the said program. The researcher decides to conduct the

research about the increasing number of students to observe the reason of the freshmen students why they

chose the said course.

Statement of the Problem

1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:

1.1 age;

1.2 gender;

1.3 religion;

2. What are the reasons of the college freshmen students on choosing MVGFCI as their school?

3. What are the improvements that college freshmen students observed that can be improved?

4. How can the reasons of the college freshmen students on choosing MVGFCI as their school may

described?
Research Objectives

1. Describe the profile of the respondents in terms of their age, gender and religion

2. Identify the reasons of the college freshmen students on choosing MVGFCI as their school.

3. Identify the factors that college freshmen students observed that can be improve.

4. Describe the reason reasons of the college freshmen students on choosing MVGFCI as their

school.

Assumptions

1. The respondents differs in terms of their age, gender and religion.

2. The main reason of college freshmen students on choosing MVGFCI is the academic excellency

of the school when it comes to criminology licensure exam.

3. The college freshmen students have different factors observed that can be improve.

4. The college freshmen students generally like the reason of high passing rate of criminology

licensure examinee in MVGFCI.

Scope and Limitation

This descriptive research is entitled the “Increasing number of freshmen college students school

year 2022-2023 in Manuel V. Gallego Foundation Colleges Inc”. The researcher shall be Dirangarun,

Benjamin U. of 4th year Criminology. This research will be conducted during the school year 2022-2023 in

MVGFCI. The respondents must be the college freshmen criminology in MVGFCI. The data shall be called

using by questionnaire. The data shall be collected using questionnaire-checklist while the respondents will

be determined using the simple random sampling technique.

Significance of the Study

This research shall be beneficial to the following groups of people:

The school of MVGFCI. The institution is the one will have the most benefit on this research because they

can assess how they run the school, based on the respondents answer and make further improvements.

MVGFCI marketing team. The marketing team will benefit on this study because they can use the good

qualities respond by the students on their marketing strategy and used this quality to be seen by incoming

college students.

Incoming college students. The graduating high school students will benefit on this research because the

students will have the idea about the program of criminology particularly in MVGFCI, they can use this idea

to assess if the school is good enough for them to enroll.

Researchers. The researchers can use this research as their basis for further research.

Definition of Terms

Crime. an illegal act for which someone can be punished by the government. (https://www.merriam-

webster.com/dictionary/crime October 27, 2022) In this study, it has been used on introduction to open the

topic about the research.

Philippine National Police (PNP). Originating from a merging of the Philippine Constabulary and the

Integrated National Police, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is the civilian national police force of the

Philippines. The following is a brief history of the PNP and the organizational structure that it holds today.

organization that is preventing the crime in the Philippines.

Freshmen college student. any University student who has finished high school and has commenced their

first year of college. This may include international students, but does not include transfer or graduate

they are the respondents of this paper.

MVGFCI. a non-sectarian, non-profit educational foundation. MVGFC aims to offer well-designed and

highly relevant programs and modules that are strongly complemented by extension projects and

researches; provide a conducive learning environment that fosters quality and holistic development of the

students; produce graduates who will contribute significantly in the improvement of the quality of life in their

respective communities; and hire qualified, competent, and dedicated educators and support personnel
