LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH IV


(Inductive Method)

I. OBJECTIVE

At the end of the 45 – minute class discussions, the grade IV pupils are expected to do the
following with aleast 75% level of proficiency;

a. tell that collective noun represents a group of people, animals, or things;


b. identify the collective noun in the given sentences;
c. use collective noun in a sentence correctly.

IV. PROCEDURES

A. Preparation

Good morning class (Good morning teacher). Before we start may I request someone from the
class to lead the prayer (Our Father …. Amen!). Before you take your seats, please pick up some pieces of
papers under your chairs and arrange your chairs properly. You may now take your seats.
Class I have here an incentive chart. What can you see on our chart? (groups of children). Very good!

How many groups of children do you see? (2) very good! I’ll be grouping you into two. This will be
the group one and this will be group two. Now, I have here stars as points. What do you think are the things
you need to do to earn some stars?(participate, answer, and behave) Very good! For those groups who will earn
the highest number of stars will receive some extra points.

1. MOTIVATION

Class I have here a picture. What can you see in the picture? (a girl and her mother) what are
they doing? (They are washing plates) very good! Are they both happy doing the chores? (yes). Very good!

B. PRESENTATION

I have here a short story about the Picture. I am going to read it first. You listen carefully
then afterwards, I will ask you to read the story. But before that, what are the things that you should
remember when someone is reading a story? ( listen, behave, and understand the story) very good!

Gracie’s Day
Gracie promised her mom that she would help with chores around the house. She is saving
all the money her mother gives her for completing chores, so she can buy a new string of pearls. The string of
pearls is going to be a gift for her mother’s birthday. Gracie woke up early Saturday morning to begin helping
around the house.

First thing she did was grab the basket of dirty clothes from the bathroom. She took the pile
of clothes into the laundry room so her mother could sort them to wash. Then she picked up all the pairs of
shoes throughout the house and put them away. Gracie took a break to eat a bowl of soup and a pack of
crackers for lunch. After lunch, Gracie helped her mom wash a pile of dishes. Once the dishes were done,
Gracie took all of the bundles of newspapers to the recycling bin in the cart port. Then Gracie turned her
attention on yard work. Gracie raked the yard into piles of leaves and pulled the weed from the bed of flowers.
After a long day of work Gracie’s mom gave her ten dollars for all her hard work. Gracie is excited because
she only needs twenty more dollars to buy her mom a string of pearls.

What have you observed with the phrases? ( there are underlined words) very good! What
are the underlined group words? ( String, basket, piles, pairs, bowl, pack, bundles, piles and bed) What do you
call those underlined words? (noun) Very good! What kind of nouns are they? (collective nouns) Very good!
These underlined words are called collective nouns.
Collective nouns are nouns that represent a group of people, animals, or things. Anyone from the class knows
other examples of collective nouns? (No teacher).

I have here examples of some collective nouns that represent a group of animals:

 army of caterpillars  pack of wolves


 herd of elephants  colony of ants
 litter of puppies  caravan of camels

I also have here some collective nouns that represent a group of specific people:

 audience (spectators)  faculty (teachers)


 cast (company of actors)  panel (experts or judges)
 troupe (performers)  platoon (soldiers)

I also have here some collective nouns that represent a group of specific things

 armada of ships  galaxy of stars


 deck of cards  chain of islands
 bouquet of flowers  range of mountains

D. GENERALIZATION

Now that you already understand our lesson for today, so who can tell to the class what
are collective nouns? (collective nouns represents a group of animals, people, or things) very good!
Next, who can give me some examples of collective nouns? ( Colony of ants) very good!

E. APPLICATION

I have here an activity, and I want you to come in front if you know the answer.

Directions: Read each sentence carefully. Underline the collective noun in each sentence.

1. I saw a flock of geese flying V formation last week


2. I called my family to see them too.
3. I saw a school of fish this morning.
4. A pride of lions hunts for food.
5. He also talked about wolves, joining packs when looking for food.
6. Like human beings, animals enjoy being a part of a group too.
7. There are herds of elephants and sheep.
8. Aside from wolves, lions, and swarm of bees attack when disturbed.
9. Small animals such as caterpillars have an army too.
10. Even ants have their colony.

F. EVALUATION

Since you already know what collective noun is. I am going to give you a quiz.
