I. Objectives:
At the end of the 50-minute discussion, the students are expected to:
A. enumerate the steps in organizing data in tabular form;
B. organize and present data in tabular form; and
C. recognize the importance of organizing data in real-life situations.
II. Subject Matter
A. Topic/Content - Organizing and Presenting Data in a Tabular Form
B. Values Integration/Infusion – Participation, Cooperation

a. Prayer
Everybody stand up and let us pray. (The students pray)
Good morning, class! Good morning, Ma’am Danieca!
Good morning, classmates! It’s
nice to see you again!
Before you take your seat, kindly
arrange your tables and chairs and (The students arrange their tables

b. Attendance
Do we have absences today? Yes, we have. Students A, B, and C
are absent today.
Okay, students A, B, and C are
absent.
d. Drill
Let us now have definitions of terms.
The terms I will present to you are
connected to our discussion today
and they will help you to better
understand our lesson.
Definitions of Terms
a. Variable- any characteristics,
number, or quantity that can be
measured or counted.
b. Tabulate- arranging data in
tabular form or in a table.
c. Tally- to record or to list.
d. Statistics- the study of collecting
analyzing, interpreting, and
presenting data.
c. Review
Yesterday, we discussed collecting
data and the types of charts and
graphs. Now, let us see if you can
recall what we discussed. I will flash
a picture on the screen and tell what
type of chart or graph is being
shown.

presented in charts or graphs. We
collect data and present them in
charts or graphs.

Okay, class. I need your help. I have
here packs of M&M’s chocolates and
I want to know the number of
chocolate candies per color inside the
pack. Count the chocolate candies
per color, tally them, and record
them in the table I will give to you.
You will also answer the questions I
will flash on the screen after you
arrange the data you collected in the
table.

and arrange well the data. Now let us
answer the question and see if you
have the same answers.

B. Lesson Proper
In life, we always deal with
information and data. When it comes
to statistical investigation, where we
collect and interpret data, we always
need data.
How do we collect data? In what

ways? Through observation, Ma’am.

Very good! We gather information or
data through observation. What do Our five senses
we use when we are observing?
Correct! Besides observation, we also
gather data through interviews and
surveys.
After gathering the data, what is the We need to organize the

You got it! We need to organize the

many M&M’s chocolates are in a

Very good! We use the table so that
we can organize and present data so
that we can easily interpret and
understand them.
Look at this example scenario:
Ms. Partuza recorded the Math Quiz
scores of her Grade 5 students. These
are the scores:
5 4 3 5 1 4 3 5 5 2 4 3 4
4 4 5 5 4 4 5 4 4 3 5 4 5
3 5 3 4 4 5 1 4 2 5 4 5 4

Let us help Mr. Partuza to organize

and analyze the results and answer
the following questions:
a. How many students got 5?
b. How many students got below 3?
c. If the passing score is 4, how
many passed the quiz?
d. What was the lowest score
obtained by a student?

For us to answer the questions and

analyze the result, we need to
organize the scores in a tabular form
or through the use of a table.
In organizing data in a table, it is
important to plan how the table will
look like.
There are several steps we need to
follow in order to organize data in a
tabular form.
The first step is to create a table. We
need to know first how many rows
and columns the table should have.
When we say rows and columns, The alignment of the row is vertical
what are those? What is their while the column is horizontal.
difference?
Very good!
In the data of the math quiz results,
we have two sets of information,
what are those? The scores of the grade 5 students.
Correct! What else?

The number of the students who

Yes, the scores and the number of got the scores.
students who got the scores will be
our variables. Meaning, our table
should show the scores and the total
number of students who got a
particular score based on the tally,
or what is referred to as frequency.
These variables will be put in the
column. So, how many columns
should we have? There will be 2 columns.
Correct!
Now for the row, how many different
scores do we have in the data? There are 5 scores.
Okay, since we have five different
scores, our table should have seven
rows, why seven?
5 rows for five different scores, one
for the column headings (or titles),
and one for the totals.
We, therefore, need 7 rows and 2
columns.
In the second step, write the labels
for the row and column headings.
For the third step, we are going to
tally the number of students who got
a particular score. Looking back on
the quiz scores, let’s count the
students who got 5. How many got
5? There were 13 students who got 5.
How about 4? There were 16
How about 3? There were 6

And 2? There were 2 students who got 2.

Lastly, how many got 1? There were 2 students.
Let us now total the students who
took the quiz from the frequency.
How many students there were? There were 39 students who took
the math quiz.
For the last step of organizing data in
a tabular form, we have to write a
title so that those who will read the
table can easily know what it is all
about.
What title can we give to our table? The grade 5 students' math quiz
results.
It could be but to make it more
specific, let’s add Ms. Portuza’s name
so, it will be Ms. Portuza’s Grade 5
