IN-DEPTH INTERVIEW GUIDE QUESTIONS

INTERVIEWEE: (NA’AM VINA)

1. What are the experiences of the teachers in giving corrective feedback

through online learning modality?

a. How do you provide corrective feedbacks to the students through online?

So it is important to give corrective feedback to our students. So, in my case I

always give correctibe feedbacks through the use of correct or incorrect methods

and I always explain to them, why his or her answer is correct or needs

improvement so in that way they will also be able to reflect on their answers , so

sometimes pud I used real word contexts to give them feedback because I

believed that it is easier for them to understand the concept once they relate it to

their real life experiences.

b. What are the common responses of the learners towards the corrective feedback

being provided?

So in my case positive man tanan ilang reponse, so everytime I give them

corrective feedback, they all understand that it is only for their own good.

c. What are some of the reasons why the provision of corrective feedback was

sometimes delivered late to the learners?

So the only reason lang gyud that I can give late corrective feedback to my

students is to piled paper works, ok. So for example you are teaching three

sections with the same subjects and each sections has more than 10 students so

since we are using online man karun it is really hard for the teacher to check their

output kay usahay mag bali bali pa ang mga picture nga ginapang send sa mga

students and mag tagbaw pa ang teacher ug bali-bali pud sa ilahang laptop to

check their outputs maong sometimes madelay jud ug hatag ang feedback sa

mga students .

d. How do you manage to establish an interactive atmosphere in providing

corrective feedback despite the online learning modality?

So I establish an interactive atmosphere by providing corrective feedback despite

having an online modality by encouraging my my students to share my ideas in

the class and I also use peer evaluation in my class to really engage most of my

students in my discussion. ok so if you can observed pud kasi whenever you are

going to have peer evaluation most of your students will be in, a , will be

encourage or ma incourage sila to participate especially if they are comfortable

with their peers.

e. Do students take the initiative in asking corrective feedback? How? How did you

respond? If not, why do you think are the reasons?

Of course there are really times that my students initiate by asking the feedback

on their output, okay so. They approach me by a messenging me through

messenger or by approaching me in our faculty ,so ah, especially most of the

time mahitabo na siya every after exam. Okay so for example, my grade 12

students are ah still having their online exams so we are still, pag mag exam sila

online lang gihapon and to give them feedback I really have to check their papers

individually especially if uhm, kanang mga essay’s, mga graphic organizers, so it

is our job pud to check if their answers are correct or kanang gikuha raba na nila

sa internet for them to be guided pud , ok so, what I always do is ah, is, if ever

nga malate ko I will always set ann exact date gyud kung kanus a ko, kanus a

nako mahatag sa ilaha ang ilahang feedback about sa ilahang output.

2. What are the challenges encountered by the teachers in giving corrective

feedback in today’s online learning modality?

a. What are the common problems encountered during the provision of the

corrective feedback?

a1. What is the main challenge brought by technical difficulties such as

abrupt halt of online educational platforms in the course of providing

corrective feedback?

So for me no, the main challenge brought by technical difficulties in giving

corrective feedback is uhm, ah, is the poor internet connection, so there are really

times when you are giving corrective feedback to your students when you will

lose your ah, your internet connection or student will lose their internet

connection, ok. So another one pud nga I have observed is the challenged is the

noise that may occur during the your discussion or during the time that you are

giving corrective feedback, so the physical noise, most of the time, kanang mga

saba sa manok, saba sa iro or saba sa mga sakyanan , mag occur gyud na siya in

real world, ay real classroom scenarios jud sa online nga platform.

a2. What are the problems encountered in terms of student’s response to

the given corrective feedback?

So far no,? I did not received any problems in terms students responses to the

given corrective feedback because they all take it in a constructive way or maybe

because they are old enough to understand the importance of corrective

feedback. So para sa ilaha kanang imporatante siya for them to be able to

improve their skills or enhance the things that they have to enhance.

b. What is the hardest part in establishing an effective corrective feedback that

would enhance the English competence of the learners?

So, in my case I find it hard to establish effective corrective feedback that will

enhance the English competency of my learners online in terms of asking

questions in clarifying an answer, so most of the students no? are afraid every

time I ask them to clarify their answers or to state what they meant to their

answers kannag ginahimo man nako siya , as much as possible I want to ah

develop the self-confidence of my learners to explain their answers every time

they are called to give their ideas so but uhm, suddenly most of the students are

anxious everytime I am applying this strategy.

c. What are the effects of the absence of face-to-face interaction in the motivation

of the learners towards improving their English competence?

So the effect of the absence of face to face interaction on the motivation of the

learners towards improving their English competency is that, learners tend to

have mental, physical or other personal problems that may affect their motivation

in learning English, ok. So another one class, so another one pud diay , since you

cannot monitor your students face-to-face and they are turning off their cameras

during your lecture, you really can’t ah, ah, you really cant be sure enough if they

are really listening to your discussion or not.

d. How do the added workloads affect the real-time and extensive provision of

corrective feedback through online?

For me, the added workloads affect the real time and extensive provision of

corrective feedback online as it will sometimes cause a delay in giving corrective

feedback to your students since you need to accomplish first the things the you

have to submit and accomplish so malanagan jud ka and ma set a side nimu ang

pag check sa mga papers sa imuhang students or paghatag nimu ug corrective

feedback sailaha .

e. How did you cope with the challenges in providing corrective feedback?

e1. What are the strategies that you used?

GABRIEL TABORIN COLLEGE OF DAVAO FOUNDATION, INC.

So the strategy that I used to cope with the challenges in providing the corrective

feedback is the sandwich approach method ok . so where you first identify the

strengths of your students followed by identifying the things that they need to

improve and lastly conclude with the positive comments, so by using this uhm,

strategy I can motivate my students as well as positively give them corrective

feedback.

3. What are the insights of the teachers about the effectiveness of giving

corrective feedback to students in today’s learning modality towards the

development of English competence?

a. What is your perspective about the effectiveness of corrective feedback in

today’s online learning modality?

So in my view point is as, still effective so give them corrective feedback even if

we are, ah, we are in an online learning modality because somewhat they can still

see improvements of students or the Makita nimu nga naga improve ilahang skills

in writing or in communicating.

b. What are the advantages and disadvantages of providing corrective feedback

online? Why?

So the advantage of giving corrective to your students is it can improve their

behaviour and they can also assess themselves if the answer they give is correct

or incorrect and ah, improve it if necessary, so students can also be able to know

their strengths and weaknesses by giving them corrective feedback. Well on the

other hand the disadvantages or the disadvantage on giving corrective feedback

to your students online is that you cannot be so sure if they are listening to your

feedback or not or if they are kanang gina take ba nila ang feedback in a positive

way or in a negative way.

c. In your own standpoint, how significant is the continuous provision of corrective

feedback in the enhancement of the English competence of the learners?

So it is significant to continue the provision of corrective feedback in the

enhancement of the English competency of the learners because nowadays

students tend to rely on the internet in answering their outputs without proper

acknowledgement of the source, so by giving them the corrective feedback or by

monitoring them you will be able to explain to them that getting information from

the internet will not do good for them especially in terms of enhancing their

English competencies, so as much as possible I always encourage my students

to answer their outputs na gikan lang sa ilang words, or based sa ilang

understanding only. I can also motivate my students to improve their writing

skills as well as their comprehensions and communication skills.

d. In your own standpoint, does learner’s personal motivation affects the efficacy of

the corrective feedback being provided online?

Of course learners motivation affects the efficacy of the corrective feedback that

being provided because if students do not have any motivation to learn, they do

not also have the motivation to listen any feedback that you will give so as much

as possible mao jud na siya ang most important thing that as a teacher we need

to consider.

e. In your own standpoint, how should teachers properly address the concerns of

the learners about their right to receive a real-time and extensive corrective

feedback online?

So as teacher no we should always properly address the needs of our students regarding their right to
receive the corrective feedback even if how tired we are so as much as possible we should see to it we
could give corrective feedback for them to also monitor themselves to improve themselves ,their skills
and competencies.
