Lesson Plan Project

Lesson Goals or Learning Targets (Word these as measurable student outcomes.)
Students can write a letter and are able to read the poem on the paper, then put hands in
paint then on paper.

Lesson Objectives or Success Criteria (Word these as student actions, use verbs.)
Student can place hand on paper with paint to make a flower and sun. Student can write and
understand work.

Lesson Plan Content (Written narrative paragraph about the lesson content.)
I will call each student one by one and ask them to paint on their hand yellow for the sun. Go
through each student then once dried have them come up and paint their flower. After that
they will read me their poem and write a letter then their name.
CCSS Rationale (Describe the specific Common Core State Standards addressed during the teaching
of this lesson plan.)
The CCSS that I can use during my lesson plan is the Common Core State Standards
for English Language Arts number 2 of the reading standards for foundational skills
for grade 1 standards. It explains that the students can understand spoken words,
syllables, and sounds. They need to know how to read and understand the words
they are reading out loud.

Instructional Procedures

• Focusing Event (Describe how you will get students to focus attention on your teaching.)
I will announce in the beginning of class that they will be doing a painting project and
explain it to the class.
• Instructional Strategies (Describe each of the instructional methods you will employ during the
lesson.)

The instructional method I will employ is direct instruction. I will do this by telling them
what to read, then where to put their hand, then what to write in the letter.

• Student Participation (How will you engage students and get them on board to participate?)
I will engage my students by calling then one on one then have the decide what color
they will like to use and how they would like their image to look.

• Formative Check (How will you check that all students are involved and engaged in the lesson?
I will check this by guiding them through the whole thing one by one and make sure
they are doing it correct.

• Closure (How will you end the lesson purposefully, with intentionality?)
I will ask them if they like their project and if they want to add something. Then explain
to each student why it is important.

• Assessment (How will you assess that students achieved the lesson goals or learning targets?)
By looking how their flowers came out and correcting their spelling on the letter as
they are going.

Lesson Plan Materials (Include everything needed to successfully complete the lesson with
the full class. Remember to include all supplies, as well as technology, whiteboard space,
classroom space, etc.)

To follow through with this lesson plan I will need paint, card stock with printed poem on it,
pencils, plates, paint brushes, and wipes.
