1 What does it mean to be a global

citizen?
Activity: Globalization and sustainability
How does the focus change when the global context changes?

Other global contexts are:

 Identities and relationships
 Orientation in space and time
 Personal and cultural expression
 Scientific and technical innovation
 Fairness and development

Have a look at the global context ‘fairness and development’.

The key idea is: what are the consequences of our common humanity?

This global context looks at:

 Rights and responsibilities
 Relationship between communities
 How we share finite resources with others and other living things
 How we can have equal opportunities
 How resolution can be peaceful or a conflict

Think about the chapter you have just worked through. Are there any issues that fit within the ‘fairness
and development’ global context?

For example: Rights and responsibilities to the ocean

The original question in the chapter was ‘How have different environments been damaged by human
action?’ How would you change this question to fit with the new global context of ‘fairness and
development’?
