OBJECTIVES:

1. To be able to accurately manufacture the machine guide to exact dimensions

2. To understand the concepts of friction fits
3. To be able to incorporate pattern/grid making to actual product developed techniques

MATERIALS:
1-piece solid wood L 60 x W 60 x H 15 in mm
1-piece solid wood L 34 x W 34 x H 49 in mm

TOOLS:
Rip cut saw
Small file
Triangular file
Rasp File
Electric drill
Drill bit size 3/8”
Try square
Pencil
Eraser
Steel Ruler
Lab Apron
Safety goggles
Safety Mask
Bench vise

PROCEDURE:
Lower Base
1. Using try square measure the raw material’s initial dimension it should have 60 x 60 x 15mm if not
using Rip Cut Saw cut the excess materials.
2. At the top side of the wood measure 13 x 13 mm for each corners, then create many vertical and
horizontal strip at the middle except the 4 corners of the wood marked it using pencil
3. At the side part of the wood measure 6 mm from the base edge of the wood then mark it using pencil
4. Using try square draw two (2) diagonal lines and get the center then marked it using pencil
5. At the center of the wood using electric drill and drill bit 1/8” make a hole
6. Using rip cut saw follow the step # 2 cut the wood in the middle except the corners the depth of cut
should be 9 mm from the top edge of the wood
7. Using rasp file remove the unnecessary part of the wood at the middle
8. At each corners at the 13 x 13 mm square create 7 x 7 mm square (other base of the rectangular wood)
with the same center with the 13 x 13 mm
9. Connect the vertices of 13 x 13 mm square and 7 x7 mm square by tapering the all side using small/flat
file
10. Using sandpaper finalize the wood part of the whole wood piece
Boss
1. Using try square measure the raw material’s initial dimension it should have 34 x 34 x 80 mm if not
using Rip Cut Saw cut the excess materials
2. At the top base of the wood of 34 x 34 mm square create 25 x 25 mm square (other base of the
rectangular wood) with the same center with the 34 x 34 mm
3. Connect the vertices of 34 x 34 mm square and 25 x 25 mm square using ruler
4. Using rip cut saw remove the part that is outside the outline/pattern for the Boss part
5. For each bases using try square draw two (2) diagonal lines and get the center then marked it using
pencil
6. At the center of the wood (step # 5) using electric drill and drill bit 1/8” make a hole the depth should
be 8 mm to do that measure 8 mm at the top edge of the drill bit then marked it using masking tape

Core Prints (2 pcs)

1. Using try square measure the raw material’s initial dimension it should have 15 x 15 x 15 mm if not
using Rip Cut Saw cut the excess materials
2. At the top base of the wood of 15 x 15 mm square create 7 x 7 mm square (other base of the
rectangular wood) with the same center with the 15 x 15 mm
3. Connect the vertices of 15 x 15 mm square and 7 x 7 mm square using ruler
4. Using small file remove the part that is outside the outline/pattern for the core print part
5. At the base of 15 x 15 mm using try square draw two (2) diagonal lines and get the center then marked
it using pencil
6. At the center of the wood (step # 5) using electric drill and drill bit 1/8” make a hole the depth should
be 8 mm to do that measure 8 mm at the top edge of the drill bit then marked it using masking tape
7. Using bamboo stick combine the core prints to the base and core prints to the boss.
