LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 6

October , 2022 1:30-2:20 pm

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to:

K- Define suspension mixture

Describe characteristics and uses of suspensions
S- Give examples of suspension mixtures
A- Practice politeness during individual, paired and group activity

II. Learning Content

Topic: Suspension (S6MT-Ia-c-1)

Reference: K to 12 Grade 6 Science Curriculum Guide pp. 40

Materials: Projector, laptop, video clips, pictures, real objects, activity cards,
power point presentation

Values: Appreciation of various suspension mixture around us

Other Subject(s) Health, EsP, English

Integration:

III. Learning Experiences

A. Preparatory Activities
Checking of Attendance
Drill
Recite the First Quarter Lesson Concept (Matter)

Review
The magic box. The magic box will be passed while the music is playing.
When the music stops, the one holding the magic box will get an object inside it
and will identify whether it is solute or solvent.

Unlocking Difficulties
 Insoluble- not capable of being dissolve in a liquid especially in
water
 Settle- to sink gradually or to the bottom
 Bottom- the undeside of something
 Sediments- the matter that settles to the bottom of a liquid
 Spread- to distribute over an area

Motivation
Questions of the day:
Are you familiar with the label “Shake well before using”?
What are the products that need to be shaken before using?
Why do some products need to be shaken before using?
B. Developmental Activities

Exploration:
-Watching a video clip about suspension mixture
http://youtube.com/watch?v=3aClxxSX4eM
(The chemistry of Suspension)

Comprehension Check:
-What is the solute and the solvent used in the video?
-What happen to the solute?
-What type of mixture is being shown in the video?
-What kind of mixture?

Explanation

Solids that do not dissolve in water are called insoluble materials. For example,
sand is insoluble in water. The particles of sand do not mix with the water. Instead the
sand settles at the bottom of the water forming a sediment. Some insoluble solids
such as flour seem to make the water appear cloudy. When the insoluble solid is
spread throughout the liquid, making it cloudy, it is called a suspension.

Elaboration

Pre Activity
1. Divide the class into four groups.
2. Recall the standards in doing the activity.
3. Let the pupils do the activity.
4. Instruct them to answer the guide questions after the activity.

Activity Proper
Group 1-
1. Prepare a glass.
2. Fill the glass with half-filled water.
3. Add a spoonful of milk into the glass then stir.
Observe and describe what happens.

Group 2-
1. Prepare a glass half filled with water.
2. Add a spoonful of flour into the glass then stir.
3. Observe and describe what happens.

Group 3-
1. Prepare a glass half filled with water.
2. Add a spoonful of sand into the glass then stir.
3. Observe and describe what happens.

Post-Activity
1. Let the pupils report their output by groups (Teacher may encourage
the pupils to report their work in varied ways.)
2. Each group will be given 2 minutes only for group presentation

Application

Why do some medicine need to be shaken before using?

Why is it important to shake a suspension?
The important thing to remember is that you have to shake a
suspension before giving each dose so that the medicine particles are evenly
distributed throughout the liquid.  When the medicine is at rest for a long period
of time then the heavier particles settle at the bottom

Generalization

Suspension Glass. The teacher should show a graphic organizer of suspension glass.

Example:
The bottom part should contain things you have learned about suspension.
The top part should contain things you want to know more about suspension.

Evaluation

INSTRUCTIONS: Write TRUE if the given statement is correct and write FALSE if it is
wrong. Write your answers in a ¼ sheet of paper.

TRUE 1. Solids that do not dissolve in water are called insoluble materials.
FALSE 2. The particles of insoluble materials mix with the water.
TRUE 3. Sediments are matters that settles at the bottom of the water
FALSE 4. A suspension is a homogeneous mixture in which the solute
particles do not dissolve.
TRUE 5. Suspension medicine needs to be shaken before using so that
particles will evenly distributed throught out the liquid.

Assignment

Name 5 example of suspension mixture that can be used in our households.
