Daily lesson Plan in Science 8

QUARTER: Fourth Grade Level: Grade 8 Learning Area: Science

Week: 2 Learning Modality: Face-to-Face Classes
MELC: COMPARE MITOSIS AND MEIOSIS, AND THEIR ROLE IN THE CELL-DIVISION CYCLE.
Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of…
1. How cells divide to produce new cells;
2. Meiosis as one of the processes producing genetic variations of the Mendelian Pattern of Inheritance.
Performance Standard: Report on the importance of variation in plant and animal breeding.
DAY OBJECTIVES TOPIC/S CLASSROOM-BASED ACTIVITIES Students Activity

Very good!!

Where can you find the chromosome? In the nucleus ma’am.

What are the two stages of the cell cycle? Interphase and mitotic phase.

Figure 1. The Stages of Mitosis

Illustrated by: Rosa Mia L. Pontillo

What are the processes including in the interphase?

B. Engage (Motivation)
Since you already know that there are two stages of the cell
cycle which is the interphase and mitotic phase and you also
learned the processes included in the interphase. Now let us
learn about the mitotic phase.

Cell Division - occurs every after interphase. In eukaryotic

cells, these types of cell division occur: mitosis and
meiosis.
Mitosis – the process that results to increase number of body
cells and it is a cellular process wherein two nuclei
and two cells are produced due to the division of the
original nucleus, each of which contains the same
chromosome number as the parent cell.

C. Explore (Introduction of Concept)

Let us now check the first activity on your home-based.
What are the stages of mitosis that is being explained in activity 1?

-The repeated coiling of chromosomes occurs resulted to its thicker

and shorter structure. These are made up of two sister chromatids

that are identical to each because of the replication of DNA during

the S phase. -The two chromatids are still attached at the
centromere. -The nuclear membrane breaks down.
1. Prophase
-Chromosomes align at the equatorial plane. -Each spindle fiber
from both centrosomes connects to each chromosome through
its kinetochore.

-Spindle fibers begin to contract and become shorter. Continued

2. Metaphase
contraction causes the separation of the genetically identical
sister chromatids. -Centromeres divide. -The single chromatids
move towards the opposite poles.

-The chromosomes are now at the opposing poles of the spindle. 3. Anaphase
-The microtubules disappear. -Two sets of chromosomes are
surrounded by new nuclear membranes, completing the nuclear
division process known as karyokinesis. -Cytoplasmic division
called cytokinesis occurs concurrently, splitting the cell into two.
That is correct! And after the telophase the two new nuclear
membranes are formed, and two new nuclei are seen. There are 4. Telophase
now two new daughter cells that are produced from one dividing
parent cell. Thus, mitosis has come to an end

D. Explain (Developing the Mastery)

What are the stages of mitosis?

And what happens during Prophase?
