CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the study

Social media is a computer base technology that facilitates the sharing of ideas, thoughts, and

information, through the building of virtual networks. However, due to the pandemic, social

media usage by students is so rampant recently because of easy access to devices such as smart

phones and laptops which are connected easily to the internet, the usage of social media has

extremely increased to at least 3.5 billion online worldwide. The effects on its academic

performance of the students are disturbing. Students spend excessive time on social networks

resulting in loneliness, staying up late, tiredness, lack of family bonding and missing class were

also intercorrelated with self-reports of Internet-caused impairment. (Kubey’, Lavin et.al 2001).

It is believed that their academic performance diminishes proportionately. It is perceived that

school grades will suffer because of spending too much time on social as valuable study time is

lost social media has made a person rely on it for their happiness, satisfactions, resulting in a lack

of socialization with others. We use chat and video calls with our friends instead of talking

directly,

Even if it is close. It also taught individuals to be judgmental, blind to the truth or deaf to what

needs to be heard.

Along with the benefits of social media, there are also some drawbacks. For certain students,

social media can be a diversion. Students may be distracted from their schoolwork and there is

no way for teachers to know which student is paying attention, especially now we are using

online class to study.

8

SCHOOL

Because of social media, most people, especially at their young age are posting unsuitable

content on social media. Thus, many of them engage in sexual activities or behavior, applying

what they

see on the social Medias, internet website resulting in teenage pregnancy, violence, and many

more.

The reason why we researchers choose this type of subject is because each person must be

aware of those individuals who influenced the drawbacks of social media. For over the past few

days, many people have been in a lot of negative emotion, and we should know how to treat it

with care.

For the Administrators. The outcome of this study could serve as a basis for developing school

advancement programs. The result of this study will give them the opportunity to encourage

administrators to understand what the students need and what the unnecessary capacity of the

students is, and it will enable administrators to create other individual needs to resolve these

behaviors and help to develop successful guidance. This will be an insight to test the social

media activity of students and how they will cope in an emergency and to determine their

consistency between what their conduct is and what the teachers

Or administrators have said. This can be a guide to controlling the use of social media and what

the bad impact on learners is and help to discuss this topic.

For the teacher. Although teachers have enough knowledge about social media, some abused
it, causing sickness, abuse in the body, etc. It is good to have a little knowledge about it,
especially today, that we are experiencing pandemic, we are not able to do face to face classes.

For the parents. Sometimes, parents do not realize that their sons or daughters are spending
too much time on social media, resulting in a lack of family time and bonding. It is good to know
the disadvantages of using too much social media to avoid overusing it.

For the students. Students are the ones who use too much social media, this research can be
an awareness to them.

For the future researchers. This can serves as their guide to gain further information,
especially for those who are going to choose the same topic as us.

1.5 Scope and Delimitations

This study aims to discuss THE DISADVANTAGES OF SOCIAL MEDIA AMIDST THE

PANDEMIC IN SELECTED COMMUNITY AT HARMONY HILLS 1, CSJDM BULACAN.

The respondent carries out questionnaire surveys affecting 25 people in the Harmony Hills1 field

only. (This

Research is only being undertaken this year, 2022-2023) this analysis focuses only on social

media drawbacks at this moment of the pandemic; other topics beyond this review range are not

our issue. This study will illustrate how most people handle social media correctly while they are

in an urgent situation. Yet, this analysis still demonstrates not just the risk of social media, as

well as how they can understand the effects of having so many social networks that doing so

impacts their actual lives.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter deals with the different literature and studies related to the present study. This

principally includes both foreign and local literature as well as local and foreign.

2.1 Local Literature

1.1 Fear of Missing Out and its Link with social media and Problematic Internet Use

Among Filipinos.

According to (Marc Eric S. Reyes, Jacquelyn P. Marasigan, et.al 2018) an anxious feeling among

users known as Fear of Missing Out, a form of social anxiety caused by the concern of not being

in touch with the events in the cyber world. According to Ryan and Deci’s Self-determination

Theory (SDT), people have increased their social media and Internet use in order to satisfy basic

psychological needs. Hence, FoMO may be involved in the relationship between social

media/Internet use and the satisfaction of certain psychological needs wherein one is anxious of

being left out. Given the considerable extent to which Filipinos use the social media and Internet,

a gap exists regarding the role that FoMO might play in social media use (SMU) and problematic

Internet use (PIU) among Filipinos. Thus, the present study explored the relationship among

FoMO, SMU, and PIU among Filipinos. A total of 1,060 Filipinos completed a test battery

comprising of three scales to measure the said variables: Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) scale,

Social Networking Time Use Scale (SONTUS), and Internet Addiction Test (IAT). Statistical

analyses showed that FoMO is significantly related with both SMU and PIU and that fear of

missing out can predict both social media use and problematic Internet use. Limitations and

recommendations were likewise discussed to guide future research.

1.2Efficacy of Behavior Modification Therapy on the Internet Gaming Disorder.

According to (Almina P. Ramos, Claudette A. Agnes,) The excessive use of Internet in online

gaming afflicted several adolescent students in such a way that they found it hard to control their

15

SCHOOL
Graceville 1 Muzon, city of San Jose Del Monte City, Bulacan
gaming behavior anymore. There were a lot of studies done as to the causes of this modern-day

addiction but there was scarcity of the therapy program that will address the problematic

thoughts

and feelings associated with this behavior. This study aimed to devise a Behavior Modification

Therapy (BMT) program that will reduce the frequency, intensity, and duration of their online

gaming. In developing the therapy, a mixed method of quantitative and qualitative research using

sequential explanatory design was utilized. This was composed of collection and analysis of

quantitative data through pre-test on Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) 20-Test; compilation of

qualitative data through related literatures and studies, Focused Group Discussions (FGD) and

Training Needs Analysis (TNA). The data were used as bases in designing the eight (8) sessions

of BMT. The respondents included in this research were the 11-19 years old public high school

students who experienced excessive internet gaming. After the therapy sessions the post test on

the (IGD) 20-Test was administered and the t-Test was used to find the difference. The Behavior

Modification Therapy was helpful and efficacious in reducing the IGD symptoms of the

respondents. This can be adapted as psychotherapy for IGD.

1.3 The Good, The Bad and the Ugly: Internet Use, Outcomes, and the Role of Regulation
in the Philippines.
Internet usage crosses both national and cultural boundaries. However, the extent to which

Internet usage patterns have been noted such as the internet being used more for content-oriented

material in Japan (I.e., information and entertainment) versus more communicative functions in

Korea (Bae Young, 2004). Wang (2001) highlights the importance of considering socio-cultural

explanations in relation to Internet addiction and contends that these problematic behaviors are

influenced by family, culture, and society. Choi and Ross (2006) suggest that young people who

have been raised in collectivist, hierarchical, family-focused societies are able to act and

socialized independently for the first time through the internet. They contend that it is possible

that the opening u of this “new world” may put youth living in collectivist societies at higher risk

for the development of internet addiction. This study applies the uses and gratification (U&G)

16
LORDS GRACE INTEGRATED
SCHOOL
Graceville 1 Muzon, city of San Jose Del Monte City, Bulacan
Theory (Palmgreen et al., 1985) as a frame in developing a taxonomy of internet use as well as

outcomes of internet use in a collectivist and developing society such as the Philippines. Further,

it seeks to contribute to theory by extending the U&G theory by examining the role of regulation

in predicting outcomes of Internet use.

1.4 According to (Ma. Regina Hechanova, Renee Ortega-Go 2014) Internet usage crosses both

national and cultural boundaries. However, the extent to which Internet usage varies between

cultures remains unclear. Differences in Internet usage patterns have been noted such as the

Internet being used more for content-oriented material in Japan (i.e., information and

entertainment) versus more communicative functions in Korea (Bae Young, 2004). Wang (2001)

highlights the importance of considering socio-cultural explanations in relation to Internet

addiction and contends that these problematic behaviors are influenced by family, culture, and

society. Choi and Ross (2006) suggest that young people who have been raised in collectivist,

hierarchical, family-focused societies are able to act and socialize independently for the first time

through the Internet. They contend that it is possible that the opening of this “new world” may

put youth living in collectivist societies at higher risk for the development of Internet addiction.

This study applies the Uses and Gratification (U&G) Theory (Palmgreen et al., 1985) as a frame

in developing a taxonomy of Internet use as well as outcomes of Internet use in a collectivist and

developing society such as the Philippines. Further, it seeks to contribute to theory by extending

the U&G theory by examining the role of regulation in predicting outcomes of Internet use.

1.4 According to (Alicia and Valenzuela et.al., 2019) Stated that Studies show that university

students are big fans of FB, but to date, no local study documenting the association between FB

use and academic performance among Filipino College students has yet been published. Thus,

this research investigated the extent of FB use among students in a private university in the

Philippines and correlated it to their General Weighted Average (GWA). A total of six hundred

eighty-six (686) freshmen and sophomores participated in the survey. Results showed a weak but

17
LORDS GRACE INTEGRATED
SCHOOL
Graceville 1 Muzon, city of San Jose Del Monte City, Bulacan
positive correlation between FB use and GWA, implying that more time spent on FB is

associated with better academic performance. This may be attributed to the finding that most of

the students use Facebook to update themselves on school activities and work with other students

in completing course and school requirements. The students spend an average of 2 hours every

week using Facebook, peaking during the weekends. This study provides evidence that FB offers

a useful platform for students’ academic communication. Details of school-related FB use by

students as

well as teachers may be subjects for future studies. The level of Facebook usage by students at a

private university in the Philippines was examined in this study. Compared it to their General

Weighted Average (GWA) the results revealed a slight but optimistic connection between

Facebook use and GWA. More time spent on Facebook is linked to improved academic results.

1.5 According to (Ambreo and Thompson et.al. 2019) Stated that Marine litter is a global threat

to marine biodiversity. However, there is a key knowledge gap on the impacts of marine litter in

the Philippines – a country of high marine biodiversity and large exclusive economic zone. This

gap is addressed here by using information shared on the internet by citizen scientists and

conservation groups to assess the impacts of marine litter on megafauna. Facebook, presently the

largest social media platform, was scanned for posts concerning the interaction between litter and

marine species in the Philippines. Results showed thirty-two individuals from 17 species were

affected by marine litter in the country. Furthermore, ingestion (61%) was the most frequent

interaction reported. Mindanao was also identified as a hotspot for marine litter interactions. The

study highlights the utility of social media in providing data to create an inventory of marine

species adversely affected by litter and the spatial distribution of these interactions

Sea litter is a significant threat to marine habitats around the world. There is a major awareness

deficit in the Philippines about the effects of aquatic litter. This void is filled by social journalists

and community organizations posting resources on the website.

2.2 Foreign Literature

1.1 Social media addiction.

According to (Yubo Hou, Dan Xiong, et al.019), media addiction significantly impacts student

academic performance. As they surveyed college students, they found out intervention or getting

seek professional help is one solution to reduce mental and social media addiction. Intervention

is like counseling or consultation may improve student's resiliency and understanding about

having limits on many things. It also helps students to have academic efficiency and just enough

social interactivity.

"This research examined the relations of social media addiction to college student's mental

health and academic performance, investigated the role of self-esteem as a mediator for the

relations, and further tested the effectiveness of an intervention in reducing social media

addiction and its potential adverse outcomes. In the study, we used a survey method with a

sample of college students. We found that social media addiction was negatively associated with

the student's mental health and academic performance. The relation between social media

addiction and mental health were mediated by self-esteem. In the study, we developed and tested

a two-stage self-help intervention program. We recruited a sample of college students who met

Social media addiction criteria for the intervention. Results showed that the intervention was

effective in reducing the students’ social media addiction and improving their mental health and

academic efficiency. The current studies yielded original findings that contribute to the empirical

database on social media addiction and that have important theoretical and practical

implications."

1.2 Disadvantages of social networking.

Based on this study, according to (Marilyn Price-Mitchell, 2019) there are a lot of disadvantages

of social media. For example, lacks emotional connection, decreases face-to-face communication

skills, conveys an inauthentic expression of feelings, and facilitates laziness. Based on this study,

social media became the platform where everyone can express their own feelings and opinion

19
LORDS GRACE INTEGRATED
SCHOOL
Graceville 1 Muzon, city of San Jose Del Monte City, Bulacan
about each other through the help of the internet only because it makes our life more convenient

and easier. As many of us depend on using social media it became a part of how we

communicate until we did not realize it affects how we communicate with each other and also

more difficult to developed communication skills in verbal interaction

“The teenage way of life has completely changed from what it was only twenty years ago. Now,

there is a dramatic decrease in face-to-face communication, which reduces our generation’s

ability to interact with others on a speaking level.”

1.3 Negative Impacts.

To Tarawneh (2014), networks like Facebook impact include addiction and time-wasting, which

make students perform poorly academically because they spend most of their time on social

media instead of concentrating on their learning, while Flad (2010) notes that social media

distracts students while in school research indicates that many students log on daily to social

media sites especially Facebook. Social media's adverse effects on students include attention-

distracting, sometimes in class, resulting in poor academic performance. A Pew Research

Centre the research found out that 90 percent of people active on social media are aged between

12 and 20 years (Lenhart et al., 2007), lily students. This study gathered that spending about

three-quarters of their out-of-school time on social media platforms takes students from almost

all family, social, and other activities. This habit also takes students away from having physical

contact with most people in their households. At the same time, cut off physical connections with

their friends living in the same community and exclude them from many communal activities,

which invariably shape people’s moral, civic, and social standing and which could prepare them

to become influential community leaders when they grow up. This supports the position of

(Tariq et al., 2012) that social media consumes much of students’ time thereby negatively

affecting their academic work.

20

1.4 The analysis of disadvantages uses of social media according to

(Martina Drahošová, Peter Balco Procedia, 2017)

Social media is a platform that we use every day and spend much time on them. Therefore, it is

necessary to know the basic information about the advantages and disadvantages of using social

media. Our research deals with social media and their perception of the general public. We

examined by the survey which social media people use, for what purpose they are used and how

they perceive the positive and negative aspects of using social media. After analyzing the survey

results, we have identified the three most used social media in the European Union and the

opinion of social media users on the advantages and disadvantages associated with their use.

1.5 According to Pasek (2009) it shows, users were no more or less likely to get good grades

than non-users and in fact, they found evidence that Facebook use was slightly more common

among

individuals with higher grades. In order to achieve a specific objective of the study, the students

were directly inquired about whether SNS can improve academic performance. The result shows

that most student respondents are keen towards their learning progress. Table 5 shows that 70.10

percent of the student responded that SNS helps improve student academic performance, and

29.90 percent responded that it does not contribute to improve the student grades. The primary

reason of the respondents why SNS improve academic performance is that SNS can help them

communicate and discuss with their classmates and instructors about schoolwork and

assignments. Students can even upload and download lectures and be updated about information

that are being posted in these SNS the respondents’ reason

Negatively perceiving that SNS do not help improve academic performance shows that it can

only take some of students’ time to study and thus not much of distraction.

2.3 Local Studies

21
LORDS GRACE INTEGRATED
SCHOOL
Graceville 1 Muzon, city of San Jose Del Monte City, Bulacan
1.1 According to (Jian Mou and Christopher et.al., 2019) Studied that Micro lending has grown

rapidly and now benefits around 250 million people globally, half who would otherwise not have

access to credit. Use of social credit systems for micro lending risk assessment is most

pronounced in Asia, as most Western countries tightly regulate personal information available to

lenders. In most of the developing world, geography, social structure, disease, climate and

culture have a much stronger influence on credit risk and borrowing than do governmental and

corporate systems. In this study, we obtained 784 loan contracts with 3577,912 personal

communications and locations. Exploratory analysis found loan default depends on social

network structure; graph analysis indicated that those who were likely to default tended to

communicate with other likely defaulters. Detailed tests were equivocal, suggesting that social

network communication structure provided little additional information to predict default, and

may even add noise to the data. Our tests strongly supported the importance of location and

proximity to sorts of landmarks on the potential for default. Proximity to some landmarks, e.g.

city hall, moving companies and train stations, were associated with lower loan default. Others,

such as parks, stadiums, and bus stations, were correlated with a higher loan default. We

restructured our tests based on risk-return versus loan default effect with little change in results.

Micro lending had expanded exponentially,

benefiting about 250 million individuals globally, half of whom would otherwise be unable to

obtain credit. In Asia, the use of social credit networks for micro lending risk management is the

most prevalent. Geographical

location, social system, illness, environment, and culture all have a significant impact on credit

risk.

1.2 According to ( Clarissa David and Tandoc et.al., 2019) Studied that Through interviews with

journalists from four top online newsrooms in the Philippines, this study examined the

organizational arrangements surrounding social media teams and how these influence social

media being incorporated into journalism decisions. Organizations considered audience

22
LORDS GRACE INTEGRATED
SCHOOL
Graceville 1 Muzon, city of San Jose Del Monte City, Bulacan
preferences in their editorial decisions, but they depended on arrangements surrounding social

media teams. Some organizational arrangements included inclusion of social media editors in

story conferences and meetings, collaboration between reporters and social media teams, and

direct exposure of top editors to engagement analytics. Drivers of news organizations

incorporating social media into news making processes include mass-market orientation,

primacy of digital over print/television news formats, and history of a legacy brand.

That authors aimed at the organizational structures affecting social media departments in four of

the Philippines' largest online newsrooms. The mass-market orientation of news organizations, as

well as the primacy of multimedia over paper, are driving factors behind the integration of social

media into new manufacturing processes.

1.3 According to (CG Redderick and OT Chatfield et.al., 2017) Studied that This paper develops

a framework for facilitating organizational learning through social media text analytics to

enhance citizen-centric public service quality. Theoretically, the framework integrates double-

loop learning theory with extant models of e-participation in government.

Empirically, the framework is applied to a case study of citizen-to-government online

interactions on a local government’s department Facebook page. Our findings indicate that the

missed double-loop learning opportunity resulted from two factors. First, Facebook government-

posts were primarily used to advocate the government agenda by educating citizens to change

their rrecycling

behaviors without efforts to learn citizens' needs/questions. Second, this single-loop learning

orientation sustained the single-loop learning nature of Facebook citizens' posts, precluding their

direct and meaningful participation in the city's recycling governance. New insights generated

from the case study suggest the framework's usefulness in showing more promising directions

for government's double loop learning through social media platforms to enhance public service

quality. It proposed a method for improving consumer civil service efficiency by enhancing

organizational training via social networking text data. The paradigm logically blends triple

23
LORDS GRACE INTEGRATED
SCHOOL
Graceville 1 Muzon, city of San Jose Del Monte City, Bulacan
curriculum theory with current government e-participation systems. Facebook policy messages

were mainly used to further the political narrative in a test case.

1.4 on Dec 11, 2020, Martha Jean Sanchez studied that The Philippines is one of the highest

social network users in Southeast Asia, with a social media penetration rate of approximately 67

percent as of January 2020. On Average, Filipinos spent 4 Hours using social media. It has

created a way to connect and bridge distances between family and friends, enabled content

creators to share information through digital media and allowed a broader reach of promotional

marketing through online ads. Its’ functionality was one of the factors that led to increasing

social network users. Among social media users in the Philippines, Facebook was the most used

platform. It accounted for almost the entire social media market as of June 2020, with the

number of users close to the

entire internet user population. For many Filipinos, the popular platform was not only used for

social networking but also as a daily source of news, beating newspapers and radio. Despite

Facebook’s popularity in the Philippines, other social platforms such as YouTube are gaining

space in the market, particularly among content creators. As of June 2020, Raffy Tulfo in Action

was the most popular YouTube channel in the country, with subscribers nearing 13 million

One leading concern for social media users is data breach. Social networking sites collect

millions of data points from users, enabling access to hackers of all kinds, and resulting in cyber-

crime. In region 4-A of the Philippines, over 460 thousand hacking incidents were reported as of

2019.

Despite this, the popularity of social networking sites shows no sign of slowing down, as most

Filipinos stated that it was unlikely for them to use fewer social media.

1.5 According to (Dianna Sisson 2017) Studied that Using an online survey and qualitative

analysis, this study examined the role of control mutuality in social media engagement to provide

insight for social media strategy creation for nonprofit organizations. Guided by OPR and

relationship management literature, insights and implications contribute to scholarly discussions

of control mutuality and relationship management.

The role of control mutuality in nonprofit social media interaction was investigated in this report.

An online survey was used in the analysis.

2.4 Foreign Studies

1.1 According to (Eun Ah and Eunkyoung et.al., 2021) Studied that  Since the introduction of

smartphones in 2009, social networking services (SNS), which have seen a surge in users,

facilitated changes in the media environment along with social influence that has increased the

economic value and political influence of SNS. As consumers’ media use and consumption

behavior change around digital media, social media plays a very important role in consumers’

lives. From this perspective, influencers who influence not only consumers’ consumption

behavior, but also decision-making and opinion formation based on social media are attracting

attention. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop items to measure an influencer’s

reputation as a new source of information in the SNS environment; no previous researchers have

presented generalized measurement items for an influencer’s reputation. We intended to identify

what dimensions and items in the existing literature could effectively measure a social media

influencer’s reputation and to verify each item’s relevance as a measure of a social media

influencer’s reputation. Based on in-depth interviews with 30 experts and empirical findings

from 557 adults, this study identified dimensions that impact on a consumer’s perception of a

social media influencer and developed a scale. The results showed that the social

media Influencer’s Reputation scale comprises four distinctive dimensions: Communication

skills, influence, authenticity, and expertise. Additionally, the reliability and validity of the scale

were assessed, using exploratory and confirmatory analyses and construct validity. The findings

confirmed that the social media influencer’s reputation scale measurement items, in this study,

can be used as a consistent measurement tool for each dimension. It is also important to develop

value in favor of the marketing strategy by increasing value through the influencer’s reputation

Social platforms (SNS) seen an increase of people or impact on society and since release of

smartphones in 2009. That goal of this research would be to create an object that might be used

to establish the influencer's status as a modern source of information. As per the results, that

social media Influencer Relevance scale have four different aspects: Effect, communication

skills, relevance.

1.2 According to (Dankwa Duku, 2021) Studied that This paper investigated the effectiveness of

social media advertising on consumer decision-making and the mediating role of consumer

engagement. Three constructs including emotional appeal, in formativeness and advertising

creativity were employed to assess the effectiveness of firms' social media advertising on

customer decision-making. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses with structural equation

modelling were employed to evaluate a proposed model on the relationships among the

dependent and independent constructs. (Tabachnick and Fidel, 2007) formula was used to sample

310 active social media users. Only active followers of fashion brands were

considered for this study. The study showed that consumer engagements influenced the

relationship between in formativeness (full mediation) and advertising creativity (partial

mediation) in social media advertising and consumer decision-making. The study recommends

that firms that advertise fashions brands on social media must focus on crafting advertisements

that are creative and informative in order to influence decisions that consumers make on social

media platforms. The study contributes to practice by indicating that emotional appeals of social

media adverts no longer influence consumer’s decision-making on fashion brands, but rather the

26

extent of information and newness of the adverts to satisfy their needs played a major role in

consumers' decision-making.

This research looked at the influence of social media ads on consumer’s decision and thus the

role of user interaction as a moderating mechanism. Interpersonal attraction, comprehensibility,

and advertisement imagination were among the three criteria used. According to the analysis,

companies who sell apparel products on social media should seek to create marketing that are

either unique or helpful.

1.3 According to (Yadav and Kashiramka et.al., 2020) Studied that Social media has been

adopted by corporates for communicating and networking. Social media platforms help firms in

building a relationship with the outside world. The study highlights how the

adoption of social media is changing the way firms connect with their stakeholders. It highlights

how CEOs’ social media engagement on behalf of the firm contributes to building

up firms’ reputation amongst consumers. Influencer CEOs from top Fortune 500 companies have

been used for this purpose. Social media analytics has been used in this study to get relevant

insights from Twitter using methods of content analytics. Mining of user-generated content and

further analysis of its impact on engagement outcome of CEOs has been done using methods

such as web-scraping, topic modelling, bag-of-words, and dictionary methods. The study

analyses CEOs’ engagement with tweets specific to a firm’s orientation towards adopting

sustainable development goals (SDG). The study reveals how SDG-related messages on the

Twitter timeline of CEOs have high user engagement and helps build customer reputation.

Enterprises have adopted social media as a way of communication and information technology.

Organizations can use social networks to develop connections to the outside community. This

illustrates whether Organizations' social media marketing aims to enhance the good corporate

image.

1.4 Based on the study of (NICA Elvira, Gheorgheet et.al., 2014)

The purpose of this article is to gain a deeper understanding of the management of social media

at the local government level, the availability of opportunities for citizen dialogue on government

websites, and the impact that social net-working applications have on e-government. The results

of the current study converge with prior research on the growing awareness amongst government

practitioners regarding the relevance of social media, the use of social media for feed-back on

service quality, and privacy and security commitments in e-government. The literature on the use

of information technology to transform government, the potential for online government

social media is relevant to this discussion.

1.5 According to (Margrethe Mondahl, Liana Razmerita, 2020) She studied that Social media has

created new possibilities for digitally native students to engage, interact and collaborate in

learning tasks that foster learning processes and the overall learning experience. Using both

qualitative and quantitative data, this article discusses experiences and challenges of using a

social media-enhanced collaborative learning environment in case-based teaching of foreign

languages. Based on social constructivism we argue that foreign language learning is an

individual as well as collaborative process and cognitive processes underlying learning and in

foreign language learning is facilitated by means of social media and especially for new

generation of students. This article contributes to understanding of how best to make use of

social media in an educational setting and how learning may be fostered in social, collaborative

knowledge construction, sharing and building. The case-study findings indicate that collaborative

learning processes that are embedded in a social media enhanced learning platform are

supportive and conducive to successful problem-solving which leads to successful adult foreign

language learning. Furthermore, the study reports on some of the challenges in using social

media and collaborative group work for teaching and learning at university level.
