Blow room-4

The Grid:
Grids are segment-shaped devices under the opening assemblies and consist
of several (or many) individual polygonal bars or blades and together these form a
trough.
The grid encircles at least ¼, at most ¾ and usually 1/3 to ½ of the opening
assembly.
The following elements can be used in the grid:
i) Slotted sheets.
ii) Perforated sheets.
iii)Triangular section bars.
iv)Angle bars.
v) Blades.
Grid adjustment:
Three basic adjustments of triangular section bars:
i. Distance of the complete grid to the beater.
ii. Width of the gaps between the bars (a = closed, b = open).
iii. Setting angle relative to the beater envelope. (c = aggressive, b =
glancing).
Operating zones in the blow room:
1. Opening zone 2. Coarse cleaning zone 3. Blending zone 4. Fine
cleaning zone 5. Intensive cleaning or opening zone 6. Card feed.
Zone 1 (opening) machines:
Examples:
1. Bale openers.
2. The blending grab of Schubert & Salzer.
3. Multiple bale opener MO IV of Hergeth Hollingsworth.
4. The Unifloc of Rieter.
Schubert & Salzer Blending Grab Machine:
Features of Blending Grab Machine:
• One of the first traveling machine with stationery bales (3).
• It can process up to six bale groups of different height per blend.
• A large number of bales can be included in the layout and production rate is
over 600 kg/hour.
• The machine operates with spring grab (1), which is pivot able through 90o.
• The quantity of fibres grasped is mainly dependent upon the width of opening
of the grab.
• The grab moves upwards with the grasped material and open into a weighing
container (4).
• The whole carriage (2) moves to the next bale and starts a new grasping
cycle.
• When the pre-programmed weight of one component has been loaded
into the weighing container, the carriage moves on to the second
component.
• When the weighing container received the required quantity of material
from each component, the carriage travel to the end of its path and
throws the materials onto the conveyor of blending opener.

Zone 2 (Coarse cleaning) machines:

Examples:
1. The step cleaner
2. The dual roller cleaner
3. The monocylinder cleaner
Monocylinder cleaner of Rieter:

• This machine operates by only one drum. Spikes are attached on the surface of
the drum.
• The material enters the machine at one side and streams through to the other
side.
• The beater drum has 8 rows of six spikes each, arranged around its
circumference.
• In order to prevent flocks being drawn straight through the machine, the large
hood is divided in to three chambers by guide plates.
• This causes the flocks to fall back into the region of the beater drum after being
hurled out by the spikes.
• In this way, the flocks are forced to circulate three times with the drum, i.e. to
pass three times over the grid; this gives a strong cleaning effect.
• The grid is in two parts, and these are separately adjustable.
