PRE-LESSON Pupils played a game to review useful expressions for an informal
email.
LESSON DELIVERY 1. Pupils reminded that they should always make a plan for
their writing before they begin. They asked to skim through
the example email again and to write what the main idea of
each paragraph is next to it. Then they asked to read
descriptions a-d to decide which ones are closest to their
notes before doing the matching task
2. Pupils asked to read the instructions and check that they
understand what they have to do. Pupils asked to read the
Exam Close-up box and the Exam task. Pupils reminded to
underline any information in the Exam task that they need
to include in their email.
3. Pupils asked to complete the task and to remember to make
a plan for their email in class. Pupils asked to do the task
individually, but check as a class. Pupils explained that they
should use the Writing Reference and checklist for emails
or page 176 to help them.
POST LESSON Pupils asked to review their learning in this lesson by completing an
exit card; ‘what went well in your learning?’ and ‘your learning
would have been even better if..’. The card collected and they used
for planning the writing lessons in lesson cycle 4.

LESSON DELIVERY 1. Choose a text – you can access possible texts online or use any
suitable print resources.
2. Read yourself and find 10 specific details from the text.
3. Write these on the board but change something so that each
sentence is incorrect. Make sure the errors are about the content
not a grammar or word error.
4. Create a gist task for the text – some brief true/false questions or
multiple choice questions. Give pupils the text and ask them to
read it quickly and answer the gist questions.
5. Ask them to compare their answers in pairs then check all the
answers with the whole class.
6. Now ask the pupils to read the sentences on the board. Tell them
to read the text again and correct each sentence.
7. Once they have finished ask them to compare answers then
check the answers with the whole group.

PRE-LESSON Teacher writes the word transport on the board. Pupils work in
pairs and make a list of all the forms of transport they know. Teacher
sets a time limit of 2 minutes. Teacher listens to their ideas as a class
and make a list on the board (car, bus, train, etc)
LESSON DELIVERY 1. Pupils read the words in the word pool. Teacher plays the
CD. Pupils listen to the different forms of transport and
repeat them. They answer the question. Teacher listens to
their ideas as a class.

listen and follow the text in their books. They complete the
sentences using the words form exercise 1.They compare

LESSON DELIVERY 1. Tell pupils to think of their favourite film.
2. Show them examples of an infographic.
3. Tell them to create their own infographic about their film. They
could divide the information into categories such as characters /
story / place and so on.
4.they can use coloured pens and poster paper.
5. When they have completed the infographics put the pupils into
groups of 3 and ask them to present their infographics to each other,
explaining the key points.
6. Each group of 3 should choose one of the infographics and write a
summary of it together giving information about the story and key
events.
7. Fast finishers can write up a second summary for one of the other
infographics.
Note: this exercise can be repeated with a focus on books or other
topics rather than films.
