MAIN LEARNING STANDARD 2.3.1 Keep interaction going in longer exchanges by checking understanding of what the
speaker is saying
LEARNING OBJECTIVE By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
1. Learn/ revise words related to transport
2. Ask and answer questions about which forms of transport they use
PRE-LESSON Teacher writes the word transport on the board. Pupils work in
pairs and make a list of all the forms of transport they know. Teacher
sets a time limit of 2 minutes. Teacher listens to their ideas as a class
and make a list on the board (car, bus, train, etc)
LESSON DELIVERY 1. Pupils read the words in the word pool. Teacher plays the
CD. Pupils listen to the different forms of transport and
repeat them. They answer the question. Teacher listens to
their ideas as a class.
2. Pupils work individually. Teacher plays the CD. Pupils
listen and follow the text in their books. They complete the
sentences using the words form exercise 1.They compare
answers in pairs. Teacher checks answers as a class. Note
the pronunciation of yacht.
3. Pupils work individually and answer the questions using
the words from exercise 1. They compare answers in
pairs. Teacher checks answers as a class. Note that a coach
is used for long-distance journeys while a bus is used for
short journeys and journeys within a city.
4. Pupils work individually and write sentences.
5. Teacher nominates 2 pupils to read aloud the example
question and answer. Pupils work in pairs and ask and
answer the questions in exercise 4. Listen to some pairs as
a class.

PRE-LESSON Pupils asked to look at the picture in the top right-hand corner of
page 37. They asked what subject they think part of the lesson will
deal with. Pupils asked to write down as many environmental
problems and their consequences as possible. Then they asked to
take it in turns to read out one of their problems to the class.
LESSON DELIVERY Activity A(page 37)
3. Pupils asked to read the three questions and answer the
queried they may have about them. Pupils asked to work in
pairs and to take turns to answer the questions.
4. Each pair asked to answer one of the questions and repeat
until every pair has had a turn.

3. Pupils asked to read the Exam Close-up box about listening
to instructions.
4. Pupils asked to read the instructions and make sure they
understand what they are doing. The recording played once
all the way through and pupils asked to write their answers.
Then pupils asked to discuss their answers with a partner
and to justify any answers that are different.
POST LESSON Pupils asked to identify with their talk partner at least one new
word or expression that they have learned in relation to the topic.
The words/expressions collected as a whole when pupils are ready.
