PRE-LESSON Pupils played a game to review environment related vocabulary
from previous lessons and what pupils have learned about Great
White Sharks.

1. Pupils asked to read the instructions and make sure they
understand what they have to do. Pupils asked to read the
information in the Exam Close-up box. They asked to
quickly look at the task in D and to think of a word or phrase
that could go in each gap in the Exam Task.

ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON
LESSON DELIVERY
1. Teach the word ‘excursion’. Give some examples of day
excursions, e.g. to a historical place or to the beach.
2. Tell pupils to imagine they have a business offering excursions.
Ask them to work in pairs and think of a name for their company
and create a company logo.
3. Tell them to think about an exciting day out.
4. Ask them to make notes about: the place / the activity / the
times to do things / the food or restaurants. When they have
finished they should set up their table with the company logo.
5. Explain to the pupils that they will now plan an excursion.
6. One of the pupils from each pair should sit at the table and
explain about the excursion they offer.
7. Tell the second pupil to go around the other tables and ask
questions about the excursions offered. They should give their
opinion about the different parts of the excursion. Once they have
talked to at least 5 other tables, they should choose the excursion
they like best and will go on.
7. Now ask them to swap roles – the pupil who has been walking
round sits at their table and their partner now goes around to the
other tables and repeats the process of choosing an excursion.
8. Once the task is completed ask pupils which excursions they
chose and why. Ask them to give opinions.

PRE-LESSON Pupils played a game to review useful expressions for an informal
email.
LESSON DELIVERY 1. Pupils reminded that they should always make a plan for
their writing before they begin. They asked to skim through
the example email again and to write what the main idea of
each paragraph is next to it. Then they asked to read
descriptions a-d to decide which ones are closest to their
notes before doing the matching task
2. Pupils asked to read the instructions and check that they
understand what they have to do. Pupils asked to read the
Exam Close-up box and the Exam task. Pupils reminded to
underline any information in the Exam task that they need
to include in their email.
3. Pupils asked to complete the task and to remember to make
a plan for their email in class. Pupils asked to do the task
individually, but check as a class. Pupils explained that they
should use the Writing Reference and checklist for emails
or page 176 to help them.
POST LESSON Pupils asked to review their learning in this lesson by completing an
exit card; ‘what went well in your learning?’ and ‘your learning

1. Pupils asked to look at the pictures in D and spend a minute
deciding what would be involved in each one. Pupils
checked understand what recycling bins, aluminium, beach
clean-up, pollution, campaign, cycling, planting trees and
setting up a website mean.
2. Pupils asked to read the instructions again before starting
so that they know exactly what they should do. Pupils
explained that they are to match the verbs 1-5 with the
words/phrase a-e, by looking at the pictures.

1. Pupils explained that task C gave them some helpful
vocabulary to use when talking about the pictures in the
Exam Task, for example, I think we should plant some trees.

LESSON DELIVERY 1. Tell pupils to think of their favourite film.
2. Show them examples of an infographic.
3. Tell them to create their own infographic about their film. They
could divide the information into categories such as characters /
story / place and so on.
4.they can use coloured pens and poster paper.
5. When they have completed the infographics put the pupils into
groups of 3 and ask them to present their infographics to each
other, explaining the key points.
6. Each group of 3 should choose one of the infographics and write
a summary of it together giving information about the story and
key events.
7. Fast finishers can write up a second summary for one of the
other infographics.
Note: this exercise can be repeated with a focus on books or other
topics rather than films.

Possible websites:

3. Put the pupils into groups of 6. Give a template to each group.
Ask them to write the names of characters, places, events or
themes on the board.
Alternatively tell them what to write or adapt the board game
online and print out completed.
4. Give each group counters and dice. Explain that the first person
to get round the board is the winner.
5. As the pupils play they throw the dice and move around the
board. If they land on a space with a word, they have to give at
least one correct fact about the person, place or event listed. If they
can do this they can stay on the space. If they can’t they have to
move back.
6. Monitor and support as they play.
Alternative: instead of just words, questions or true or false
questions could be added to the board.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
1. Express opinions about future plans or events
ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON
LESSON DELIVERY
1. Teach the word ‘excursion’. Give some examples of day
excursions, e.g. to a historical place or to the beach.
2. Tell pupils to imagine they have a business offering excursions.
Ask them to work in pairs and think of a name for their company
and create a company logo.
3. Tell them to think about an exciting day out.
4. Ask them to make notes about: the place / the activity / the
times to do things / the food or restaurants. When they have
finished they should set up their table with the company logo.
5. Explain to the pupils that they will now plan an excursion.
6. One of the pupils from each pair should sit at the table and
explain about the excursion they offer.
7. Tell the second pupil to go around the other tables and ask
questions about the excursions offered. They should give their
opinion about the different parts of the excursion. Once they have
talked to at least 5 other tables, they should choose the excursion
they like best and will go on.
7. Now ask them to swap roles – the pupil who has been walking
round sits at their table and their partner now goes around to the
other tables and repeats the process of choosing an excursion.
8. Once the task is completed ask pupils which excursions they
chose and why. Ask them to give opinions.

PRE-LESSON Pupils played a game to review useful expressions for an informal
email.
LESSON DELIVERY 7. Pupils reminded that they should always make a plan for
their writing before they begin. They asked to skim through
the example email again and to write what the main idea of
each paragraph is next to it. Then they asked to read
descriptions a-d to decide which ones are closest to their
notes before doing the matching task
8. Pupils asked to read the instructions and check that they
understand what they have to do. Pupils asked to read the
Exam Close-up box and the Exam task. Pupils reminded to
underline any information in the Exam task that they need
to include in their email.
9. Pupils asked to complete the task and to remember to make
a plan for their email in class. Pupils asked to do the task
individually, but check as a class. Pupils explained that they
should use the Writing Reference and checklist for emails
or page 176 to help them.
POST LESSON Pupils asked to review their learning in this lesson by completing an
exit card; ‘what went well in your learning?’ and ‘your learning
would have been even better if..’. The card collected and they used
for planning the writing lessons in lesson cycle 4.

PRE-LESSON Pupils asked to work In groups to discuss any special relationships
that they have and to think of many different kinds relationships as
possible. Pupils asked to turn to page 43 and to look at the picture
and read the accompany caption.
LESSON DELIVERY 1. Pupils asked to keep their books closed and they asked
what jobs animals can do. Pupils make a list on the board of
as many jobs as possible and write the animals that do them
by each one. Pupils asked to turn to page 44 and to discuss
pictures 1-3 with a partner to say which dogs are ‘working’.
Each pair asked to report what they said to the class and to
justify their answers. Any differences of opinions accepted
as long as pupils can provide a logical explanation for their
answers.
2. Pupils asked to read the instructions and they encouraged
to refer back to the list of jobs that animals can do that they
made earlier to help them here. Pupils asked to make a list
on their own and then to compare their list with a partner’s.
3. Pupils asked to read the instructions and they asked which
information from the text they know already. Pupils asked
to look at the pictures that accompany the text and the
paragraph headings and they asked what other information
they think they will read about.
