General Information for this assessment:

 Read the instructions for each question very carefully.


 Be sure to PRINT your FIRST name & LAST name in every place that is provided.
 Short questions must be answered in the spaces provided.
 For those activities requesting extra evidence such as: research reports, essay reports, etc. The
student must attach its own work formatted in double space, Arial 12 pts.
 All activities must be addressed correctly in order to obtain a competence for the unit of
competency.
 If the student doesn’t understand the assessment, they can request help from the assessor to
interpret the assessment.
 Re-submission of assessment after the term will incur additional fees.

Re-assessment of Result & Academic Appeal procedures:

If a student is not happy with his/ her results, that student may appeal against their grade via a written letter,
clearly stating the grounds of appeal to the Chief Executive Officer. This should be submitted after
completion of the subject and within fourteen days of commencement of the new term.

Re-assessment Process:
 An appeal in writing is made to the Academic Manager providing reasons for re-assessment
/appeal.
 Academic Manager will delegate another faculty member to review the assessment.
 The student will be advised of the review result done by another assessor.
 If the student is still not satisfied and further challenges the decision, then a review panel is formed
comprising the lecturer/trainer in charge and the Academic Manager OR if need be an external
assessor.
 The Institute will advise the student within 14 days from the submission date of the appeal. The
decision of the panel will be deemed to be final.
 If the student is still not satisfied with the result, the he / she has the right to seek independent
advice or follow external mediation option with nominated mediation agency.
 Any student who fails a compulsory subject or appeals unsuccessfully will be required to re-enrol
in that subject.
The cost of reassessment will be borne by the Institute. The external assessor will base his/her judgement
based on principles of assessment. These principles require assessment to be reliable, fair, practical and
valid.
Academic Appeals:
 If you are dissatisfied with the outcome of the re-evaluation process, you have a right to appeal
through academic appeals handling protocol.
 To appeal a decision, the person is required to complete the WSC- Request for Appeal of a
Decision form with all other supporting documents, if any. This form is available via our website.
The completed Request for Appeal form is to be submitted to the Student Support Officer either in
hard copy or electronically via the following contact details:

 The notice of appeal should be in writing addressed to the Chief Executive Officer and submitted
within seven days of notification of the outcome of the re-evaluation process.
 If the appeal is not lodged in the specified time, the result will stand and you must re-enrol in the
unit.
 In emergency circumstances, such as in cases of serious illness or injury, you must forward a
medical certificate in support of a deferred appeal. The notice of appeal must be made within three
working days of the concluding date shown on the medical certificate.
 The decision of Chief Executive Officer will be final.
 Student would then have the right to pursue the claim through an independent external body as
detailed in the students’ complaint / grievance policy.

Information for students


Knowledge questions are designed to help you demonstrate the knowledge which you have
acquired during the learning phase of this unit. Ensure that you:

 review the advice to students regarding answering knowledge questions in the Business
Works Student User Guide

 comply with the due date for assessment which your assessor will provide

 adhere with your RTO’s submission guidelines

 answer all questions completely and correctly

 submit work which is original and, where necessary, properly referenced

 submit a completed cover sheet with your work

 avoid sharing your answers with other students.

Provide answers to all of the questions below:

1. Discuss, in one paragraph, the concept of business ethics.

Business ethics is a form of professional ethics that examines ethical


principles and moral or ethical problems that arise in a business
environment. It refers to contemporary organizational standards,
principles, and set of values and norms that govern the actions and
behavior of an individual in the business organization. The range and
quality of business ethics issues reflects the interaction of profit-
maximizing behavior with non-economic concerns.

2. Discuss ethical leadership and its importance in supporting organisational values.

Ethical leadership is exhibiting morals and values in a management


position. An ethical leader demonstrates character, morals, and virtue
in their work, focusing on the needs and rights of their employees. An
ethical leader directs appropriate and professional behavior for his/her
team. Ethics is also exhibits when working with clients and vendors.
Ethical leadership reduces social vices in the society, it helps
individuals to make good decisions. So it is important in supporting
organizational value.

3. Discuss three characteristics of an ethical leader.

a. Ethical leader must think in terms of strategy and not


separating the business from ethics
b. Ethical leaders speak about the identity about what
we are and what we can become and how we live and
how we could live better
c. Always dedicated to high standards of ethical behavior in own
actions

4. Give, and explain, three benefits of ethical leadership.

The benefits of ethical leadership:

- Ethical leadership is positively related to employee job


satisfaction
- It helps in shared values and principles among employees
- It creates customer value : for a positive ethical
leadership customers pay higher prices for ethically
produced products

5. Explain the importance of leadership in ensuring that work health and safety legislation is
met.

a. Transactional style: this style leads on their leadership on
motivating followers through a system of rewards and
punishments. There are two factors on the basis of this system
such as contingent reward and management by exception. This
is a positive style of leadership.

b. Authoritarian style: It keeps main emphasis on the distinction


of the authoritarian leader and their followers. These type of
leaders make sure to create a distinct professional relationship,
For example: a police officer directing traffic or teach and giving
task to a student.

c. Participative style: This leadership is related to participation


and also called democratic leadership style. This leadership
values the input of team members and peers but the
responsibility of making the final decision rests with the
participative leader.

d. Laissez Faire style: A laissez faire leader lacks direct


supervision of employees and fails to provide regular feedback
to those under his supervision. Highly experienced and trained
employee requiring little supervision fall under the laissez-faire
leadership style.

6. Give five (5) reasons why it is important to follow anti-discrimination law and provide
equal opportunity, giving a short explanation of each.

Generally charismatic leadership is the procedure of encouraging


certain behaviors through power of personality, persuasion and
communication styles. The impact of this leadership style on
organizational effectiveness is broad and positive. This style can
manage and solve any conflict or issues easily and focus on achieving
company’s vision. So this style can assist broadly to implement the
vision of the organization.

7. Discuss at least three strategies that can be used to encourage employee participation in
decision-making.

To encourage the employee participation some strategies are

- Establish the authority to participate in the subordinate decisions


- Provide and arrange training and experience with
appropriate decision making skills
- Communicate all sort of results with the employees
at time

8. Discuss three strategies that a leader can use for building trust and confidence with
colleagues.

a. Try to value those relationships in workplace with


colleagues and don’t take those for granted. It can be
very easy for granted until problems arise and we
realize that we neglected that colleague. This should
not be happened
b. Developing effective communication skills can be an
advantage to maintain and build trust and confidence.
c. Help you colleagues when they need in workplace. It
also encourages to build trust and confidence.

9. Explain two research methods an organisation can use when considering leadership
skills and best practice for their workplace and culture.

- Leaders provide guidance and play a guiding role for


the subordinates. They ensures work health and set
rules and regulations regarding work health and
legislative activities so that employee may deal fairly
and effectively without mistake. Leader instructs the
employees how to perform the work effectively and
efficiently.
- Leader also builds morale that is willing to co-operation
with employees towards their work and getting them
into confidence and wining their trust
So we can say that effective leadership is important and
can ensure work health and safety legislation at workplace.

10. For your two research methods discussed above, describe a method of how this can be
implemented in a workplace.

- In non-harassing environment everyone feels free to work


- Promotion of best employees can be possible
- Workforce reflects the diversity of potential market
- Productivity and efficiency increased
- Employees get the right skills and knowledge

11. Explain the key phases of a change management process.

The phases of a change management process are :

 Prepare the organization for change : The manager is focused on helping


employees recognize and understand the need for change in this phase. They
raise awareness of the various challenges or problems facing the
organizations which are acting as forces of change and generating
dissatisfaction with the status.

 Craft a vision and plan for change : Managers must develop a thorough and
realistic plan for bringing it once the organization is ready to embrace change.
The plan should include the strategic goal, key performance indicators, project
team and the project scope.

 Implement the change: during the implementation process change manager
must be focused on empowering the employees to take the necessary steps
to achieve the goals and helps to remove or mitigate once they are identified.

12. Explain the organisational change process using Kotter’s 8-step change model.

The organizational change process are:

 Create urgency: Develop of urgency helps the whole company need for
change. This will help in the initial motivation to get things wrong. If many
people are talking about the change propose, the urgency can build and
feed on itself.

 Form a powerful coalition : the effective change leaders can be find


throughout the organization and they do not follow the traditional
company hierarchy and to lead change the team of influential people are
needed.
