Hansel and Gretel

FADE IN:

INT. HOUSE PARENTS BEDROOM NIGHT

A MAN and his WIFE are in bed inside a small log cabin. They are talking. Their
sons HANSEL and GRETEL are in the next room, but can hear the conversation.

MAN
What has become of us? How can we feed our children when
We have nothing for ourselves?

WOMAN
Do you know what? Early tomorrow morning we will take the 2
Children out into the thickest part of the woods, make a fire
For them, give each of them a little piece of bread, then leave
Them by themselves and go off to our work. They will not find
Their way back home, and we will be rid of them.

CUT TO:

INT. KIDS BEDROOM NIGHT

GRETEL begins to cry while lying next to her brother in bed. They are hearing
the parents’ conversation.

CUT TO:

INT. PARENTS’ BEDROOM NIGHT

The PARENTS are continuing their conversation.

MAN
No woman, I will not do that. How could i bring myself to
Abandon my own children alone in the woods? Wild animals
Would soon come and tear them to pieces.
 WOMAN
Oh, you fool! Then all four of us will starve. All you can do is
Plane the wood for our coffins.

MAN
But I do feel sorry for the poor children.

INT. KIDS BEDROOM NIGHT.

GRETEL
(crying bitter tears)
Its over with us!

HANSEL
Be quiet, gretel, and don't worry, I know what to do.

As soon as the adults had fallen asleep HANSEL got up, put on his jacket and
walked outside.

EXT. HOUSE NIGHT

The moon was shining brightly, and the white pebbles at the front of the house
were glistening like silver coins. Hansel bent over and filled his jacket pockets
with how many could fit. After he went back inside.

INT. HOUSE KIDS BEDROOM NIGHT

He hung up his jacket back where it was before and walked back over to his and
GRETEL'S bedroom.

HANSEL
Don't worry gretel. Sleep well. God will not forsake us.

INT. KIDS ROOM DAWN

The WOMAN enters the room and wakes up the kids.

 WOMAN
Get up you lazy bones! We are going to the woods to fetch
Wood!

She gives them each a piece of bread.

WOMEN
Here is something for midday. Don't eat it any sooner for you
Will not get anymore.

GRETEL puts their bread under her apron because HANSEL'S pockets were
filled with the stones. Then all together they start for the walk into the forest

EXT. FOREST SUNRISE.

They are all walking but HANSEL keeps stopping and starting again.

MAN
HANSEL, why are you stopping and looking back? Pay
Attention , and don't forget your legs.

HANSEL
Oh father, im looking at my white cat thats is sitting on the roof
And wants to say goodbye to me.

WOMAN
Oh you fool, that isnt your cat, thats the morning sun shining
On the chimney.

HANSEL wasn't looking at the chimney but he was secretly dropping pebbles on
the path so they could find their way back.

EXT. MIDDLE OF WOODS MID MORNING.

MAN
 You children gather some wood, and i will make you a fire so
You don't freeze.

HANSEL and GRETEL get the wood like their father asked. The fire gets lit.

MOMAN
Lie down by the fire and rest.
