CONTENT
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of sets and the
STANDARD
real number system.
PERFORMANCE The learner is able to formulate challenging situations involving sets and
STANDARD real numbers and solve these in a variety of strategies.
LEARNING
COMPETENCY Determines between what two integers the square root of a number is.
LEARNING At the end of the session, of the class should be able to:
OBJECTIVES a.) Determine which consecutive whole numbers each square root is
between
CONTENT NUMBERS AND NUMBER SENSE
LEARNING MATERIALS Chalk, Chalk Board, Instructional materials, Etc.

ACTIVITY ACTIVITY: SQUARE IT!
LEARNING The students will find a pair to find the product of the no.
TASKS 1-30 by multiplying by itself. The students will write their
answer in a ½ length wise. Each correct product is
equivalent to 1 point.
ANALYSIS 1. Did you enjoy finding the product?
2. What have you observe while multiplying no. by
itself?
3. In your previous lesson what is the reverse of
perfect square?
ABSTRACTION Problem 1. The principal roots below are between two
integers. Find the two closest such integers.
(a) √ 19
16 is a perfect integer square and 4 is its principal
square root. 25 is the next perfect integer square and 5 is
its principal square root. Therefore, √19 is between 4 and
5.

(b) √ 300
289 is a perfect integer square and 17 is its
principal square root. 324 is the next perfect integer square
and 18 is its principal square root. Therefore, √300 is
between 17 and 18.
(c) √ 150
144 is a perfect integer square and 12 is its
principal square root. 169 is the next perfect integer square
and 13 is its principal square root. Therefore, √150 is
between 12 and 13.

APPLICATION Practice: Between which two consecutive integers does the

square root lie?
1. √ 77
2. √ 700
3. √ 243
4. √ 444
5. √ 350
ASSESSMENT Exercises:
Determine which consecutive whole numbers each square
root is between.

1. √ 48
2. √ 90
3. √ 2045
4. √ 903
5. √ 1899
