NAME: JOSHUA DE MANUEL

SECTION: BSN 2-B-4 READINGS IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY

1. Who is Santiago Alvarez? How come his writing is a primary source?

- The only child of revolutionary general Mariano Alvarez and a revolutionary general also the
founder and honorary president of the first directorate of the Nacionalista Party. Also known as
Kidlat ng Apoy because of his inflamed bravery and dedication as commander of Cavite's famous
battles. His writing is a primary source because he’s one the people who attended and witness in
that event. Also he is one of the nominated candidate for a position during the election that
time.

2. Who is Teodoro Agoncillo? How come his writing is a secondary source?

- Teodoro agoncillo is a prominent 20th-century filipino historian and he is one of the first filipino
historian renowed for promoting a distinctly nationalist point of view of filipino history. He
writing is only a secondary because he only study and write about the event happened.

3. Create a chart comparing in detail the accounts of the two writers regarding the “Tejeros
Convention”

were staying reactions of the people in this account.

● Santiago talks straight to the point how the election

went and who’s and how the candidates win.

4. Form your internal and external criticisms over the two sources.
- Internal criticism deals with the problem of credibility for me there is a lot of questions need to
ask for Santiago stories because he’s narration looks likes one sided because since he is part of
the magdiwang forces he only talk straight to the point what happened during the assembly and
how they loss to magdalo group during the election. He did not include what is the cause of
everything. In the other side Teodoro Agoncillo is a historian. I don’t’ know if I should believe on
him because he’s work is too detailed, he included everything even the small information he
added also he include the before and after the event. It looks like it’s come from other source
not from him.
- External criticism deals with the problem of authenticity in my personal opinion in Santiago
Alvarez narration I don’t know if he’s story is accurate or fabricated since he’s story is one sided.
In the other account Teodoro agoncillo he’s work is also looks like fabricated since he adding
much more information in his work I don’t know if some of the information is true or not.
