This research study examines the effectiveness of the PUV modernization program,

implemented by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) since
2017. The program aims to replace traditional jeepneys with modern-technology-based vehicles
to improve efficiency, safety, and environmental impact. However, it has faced criticism from
drivers and commuters who believe that the modernization will negatively affect their livelihoods.
This study aims to investigate the views of student passengers regarding this issue by
considering factors such as socioeconomic status, cultural beliefs, and gender.

The research objectives are to verify the effectiveness of modernized jeepneys for students,
identify the gaps between modernization and traditional transport, explore the practicality and
socioeconomic aspects involved, determine factors that influence student views and
experiences, and uncover how modernization affects students. The research questions focus on
safety and effectiveness of modernized jeepneys for passenger passengers, as well as factors
that influence perceptions and experiences of students from different socioeconomic
backgrounds.

The literature review highlights ongoing debate surrounding the phase-out of traditional
jeepneys. While concerns are raised about job loss for traditional jeepney drivers, the benefits of
modernization in terms of passenger comfort and safety are emphasized. The study aims to
contribute to the understanding of the effectiveness of modern jeepneys in providing satisfactory
transportation for students.

The study's methodology involves a qualitative research design. A case study approach will be
used in collecting data from participants in the area, who are students who ride jeepneys in
Pampanga, Philippines. Purposive sampling is used to collect data; semi-structured interviews
will be conducted to gain insights into the subject at hand.

The significance of this research lies in its contribution to understanding the effectiveness of the
PUV modernization program for student passengers in Pampanga. The study aims to address
the credibility of the program, assess the features of modern jeepneys for student safety, and
ultimately contribute to the goals and objectives of this research.
