PROCEDURE: A. Preparation
 Routinary Activities:
 Prayer, Checking of Attendance, Reminders

B. Motivation

What have you learned about deciles from the previous discussion?
What formula can we use to solve for the deciles for ungrouped data?

1. Presentation

A teacher recorded the number of minutes spent by 8 students in the computer room doing
their hands-on exercises. The record shows:
Student Time Spent (in minutes)
Alice 100
Betty 95
Cora 125
Delia 100
Edna 75
Fely 60
Grace 85
Helen 80
How many students belong to D 2, in terms of time spent in doing their hands-on exercises?
Who are they?

2. Discussion/Abstraction
Solution:
Step 1: First, arrange the scores in ascending order.
60, 75, 80, 85, 95, 100, 100, 125 n=8
Step 2: Locate the position for D2
2
D2 = ( 8+ 1) Substitute the values
10
2
= (9) Add 8 and 1 and multiply to 2
10
18
= Divide
10
= 1.8 ≈ 2 Round off to the nearest integer
D2 is the second element. D2 = 75.
Therefore, there are two students in D2 who spent less than or equal to 75 minutes doing
their hands-on exercises. They are Fely and Edna.

3. Exercises

1. Find the 7th decile (D7), given the scores of 11 students in their mathematics activity.
1, 27, 16, 7, 31, 7, 30, 31, 3, 4, 21

4. Generalization

How are problems involving deciles be solved?

5. Application

Fifteen teachers from Calape National High School were asked how many students were
sponsored by them in the “AGAK” program. They responded 5, 4, 8, 1, 3, 7, 1, 3, 2, 2, 3, 2, 4, 6
and 2.
a. Determine the 5th decile.
b. What does it imply?

H. Evaluation

The following are the Final grades of 20 students in Mathematics.

80, 65, 76, 90, 75, 85, 95, 95, 80, 75, 90, 60, 90, 80, 95, 65, 75, 90, 85, 95
How many students got a grade of less than or equal to the third decile?

I. Agreement/Assignment
