Good afternoon, I am writing to you in the most attentive manner to inform you of a
situation of labor harassment in which I have been involved during the last 3 weeks.
As you know, my job consists of being at the company's point of sale from Monday to
Saturday, a place I share with my colleague Lucía, whom I have always respected.
Some time ago, I started to receive offensive comments from her, saying that the sales
area should be exclusively for women and that a man looks bad doing this job.
The insults were increasing as the days went by, even talking badly about me in front of
customers trying to discredit me.
It is important to mention that at no time did I reciprocate in any way, I always made the
decision to ignore her and even asked her to please stop treating me like that, but it
didn't work.
This whole situation reached its limit yesterday afternoon, when while attending a very
important client she said out loud "I feel uncomfortable working with him, he is not a
trustworthy person and makes me feel insecure as a woman", which made my client
uncomfortable and even annoyed her, because she questioned my credibility.
I was tolerant, but I cannot allow someone to make insinuations or false accusations
towards me for no reason. This bothers me and it is wearing me down as a person, but
it also affects my work and the relationship I have with my clients.
I felt too frustrated not being able to do anything about it by myself, I must clarify that
today morning I tried to talk to her, but she refused to discuss the situation.
For my part, I do not know what her reasons are for having this behavior towards me,
since I have never had any kind of treatment towards her, at the same time I respect the
opinion she has about who should or should not occupy the position I am in, but in any
way.
I am aware that one of the most important aspects within the work environment is
respect and good coexistence, that is why I am also interested in making my partner
feel comfortable in her workplace, because I know that the safety of both men and
women is essential.
Therefore, I not only ask that you help me to resolve and clarify this situation as soon as
possible, but if possible, we can both be relocated to different areas, so that neither of
us feels uncomfortable and of course, my working relationship with customers is not
compromised.
I also beg you, that we can have some space within the company to take talks that
encourage respect and strengthen relationships between colleagues.
In closing, I offer an apology if at some point (unintentionally) I did something that was
misinterpreted and at the same time, I know that it is an uncomfortable situation to
resolve and to some extent complicated. I am waiting for the solution that you can offer
me and I am willing to collaborate in any way necessary so that everything is clarified
and neither party is affected.
My wish is that this is resolved but at the same time, I would appreciate that my partner
suffers the least possible reprisals, since I am sure that everything is a
misunderstanding and I put myself in her position.
