Sports are considered to be a great way to develop both physically and mentally.

When
choosing which sport to do one should take various aspects into account, one of which is
whether this sport is played individually or requires other members to be involved in it. This
essay will provide a discussion on both types of sports and state an opinion regarding which of
them benefits more.

On the one hand, some people assume team sports to have a positive impact on those who
play it. While playing this kind of sports people need to interact with each other most of the
time in order to win. For instance, most team-played sports like football, basketball or water
polo require a strategy and members’ collaboration, which means that each player contributes
to the whole team’s result. Consequently, group sports teach one to work effectively with
others and improve soft skills that are in-demand in the society, like communication and
willingness to cooperate.

On the other hand, others suggest that people should choose individual sports as they could
benefit them more. One of the reasons why people think so is that these sports tend to make
players rely only on themselves and have better concentration during the process. Runners or
boxers cannot accuse anyone but themselves in case they lose, but when they win – the
success belongs to them completely. This proves that sports played individually help people to
gain self-confidence and take responsibility for their actions, all of which makes them
independent members of the society.

Finally, in my opinion, the decision which sport to do should be made personally regarding
individual preferences. However, when it actually comes to this choice, one should remember
that developing social competences is always a good idea as we do not live separately in this
world but all together in various communities and social groups. So, playing a sport that helps
to master social skills will definitely boost one’s relations with team members as well as with
family, friends and colleagues.

To conclude it is necessary to mention that doing sports in general is an effective and profitable
activity. Even though it may not always be easy to make a decision whether to play them
individually or in a team, people should make sure what works best for them, depending on
their aims and preferences.
