INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Verbal abuse is a method of exerting and retaining influence over another person. Verbal
abuse is a sort of emotional abuse. It occurs when someone uses their words to abuse, dominate,
ridicule, manipulate, and/or denigrate another person, badly impacting that person's
psychological health.  Students may bring the impacts of verbal abuse from home to school,
including irritability, stress, and self-harm/anxiety. “A repeated pattern of parent or caregiver
behavior that conveys to a child that he or she is worthless, flawed, unloved, unwanted,
endangered, or only of value to meet someone else’s needs” (Twaite & Rodriguez-Srednicki,
2004)

The research aims to assess the level of influence of verbal abuse towards the academic
performance of Grade10 students  in San Pedro National High School.

Research Questions/Objective

Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions:

1. What type of verbal abuse do students commonly experienced by the Grade 10

students?
2. What is the level of influence of verbal abuse on academic performance of Grade
10 students? Or how does verbal abuse influence the academic performance of
the Grade 10 students?
3. What strategies can be developed to resolve the influence verbal abuse towards
the academic performance of Grade 10 students ?
METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH DESIGN

The research design for this study is a descriptive quantitative design. It aims to examine
the relationship between verbal abuse and academic performance among Grade 10 Serenity
Students at San Pedro National High School. Additionally, it seeks to explore the associations
between verbal abuse and factors such as irritability, stress, self-harm, and anxiety. This study
can clarify how many students are affected by verbal abuse on their academic performance and
mental health. The results may pave the way for future interventions and policies to mitigate the
effects of verbal abuse and provide students with a safe and healthy learning environment.
Overall, the study holds significance in contributing to the existing literature on the topic and
can be beneficial for educators.

RESEARCH LOCALE/ SETTING

This study is conducted at the student of Grade 10 Serenity School Year 2022-2023 of San
Pedro National High School at San Pedro, Sto. Tomas, Batangas, Philippines this place was
selected knowing the efficiency of the said study about students experiencing verbal abuse.
Conducting the research within the school ensures access to a representative sample of students
who can provide valuable insights into the number of students who are affected by verbal abuse
on their academic performance, irritability, stress, self-harm tendencies, and anxiety. The
research will be conducted in a manner that ensures the ethical considerations and well-being of
the participants. Informed consent will be obtained from the students, and measures will be
taken to maintain participant confidentiality and privacy.

SAMPLE AND SAMPLING PROCEDURE

To investigate the number of students affected by verbal abuse on the academic

performance of Grade 10 Serenity students at San Pedro National High School during the
academic year 2022-2023, a sampling procedure will be implemented. The procedure will
involve selecting 6 samples of Grade 10 students from the Serenity section using a systematic
random sampling method. This method will ensure that every nth student on the official student
list is included in the sample. The sample size will be determined by employing a suitable
formula for estimating proportions, taking into account an acceptable margin of error and
confidence level. Once the sample is selected, the chosen students will participate in an
interview to evaluate their experiences with verbal abuse and their academic performance.

If no references were used to analyze, understand, and evaluate the issues and problems
related to the study's subject, its value would be incomplete.

In order to learn more about the subject and get answers to their inquiries, educate their minds
about the study, and support the theories and concepts employed in it, the researchers consulted
certain references and obtained some survey data.

As academics, we used an online form and formal message to run a survey to collect data about
our subject, and the results were relevant, valid, and accurate.

The resources (REFERENCES) are visible and located at the conclusion of this study.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

The researchers made a questionnaire and handed a formal message to the target participants asking
for their voluntary participation in the study. Researchers will conduct an online survey asking at least
six students from Grade 10 Serenity about their experiences. The study's objectives will be explained
further in the formal message. The researchers and participants will have agreements that ensure their
consent and confidentiality, the right to withdraw, and the right not to answer particular questions.

DATA ANALYSIS

Before gathering data, the research protocol must receive school permission. The researchers will
send a surveillance link to the intended audience requesting their voluntary involvement in the study.
Participants will sign ethical agreements ensuring their consent, right to withdraw, and unidentified, and
the study's aims will be described in the researcher's provided online survey link. The data that will be
obtained will be acquired and assessed using the appropriate statistical processing of data.
