My Dream – Short-term

Withing the next five years I would like to be working in the baking industry as a pastry
chef or working my way towards that goal. By starting small and working my way up the ladder,
I can gain experience and become more knowledgeable in my field. I believe that my experience
in Baking and Pastry, along with my willingness to learn new things and adapt will help assist
me in achieving this short-term goal. I do not plan to travel far within the first four years and will
stick to the Fenton Michigan or Livingston County area. I have lived in this area for over five
years, know the area, and the people. This upper hand will allow me to better understand the
area, the amount of foot traffic it has and what the audience is interested in. As a pastry chef, I
will oversee the pastry team. The number of people I would supervise would depend on the
number of people at the bakery I am employed at. A bigger team would mean I would have more
responsibilities and more to look after. With time, effort and hard work, I will be able to achieve
my short-term goal and get one step closer to achieving my long-term goals. According to
Indeed, the salary for a Pastry Chef in Michigan is between $12.56 and $21.95 with an average
of $16.60. In Fenton Michigan this rate is slightly higher than average, $16.97, and gives me a
better chance of higher pay.

Long-term
After 10 years of experience in the baking industry, I want to own my own bakery. This
will allow me to expand and form my own business, while showing the world my techniques. I
believe the with my ten plus years of experiences, schooling and professional, and dedication to
Baking will bring my bakery far and help it become successful. By this time, I want to be further
up north, the Upper Peninsula or Canada, because of my love for the area and extensive traveling
I have done to the area. I will continue to study the area, the food, the people, their likes and
dislikes to help me determine the best area to buy in. As the owner, I will be responsible for
everything, I will oversee managers and staff, and keep the bakery up and running. According to
Salary.com, in Michigan the salary for a bakery owner is between $61,745 and $87,236, the
average being $75,478. This number depends on the ingredient expenses, number of employees,
insurances, prices, and other expenses. This can be a risk, but if done right can allow a Chef to
go far.
