HS - Work Instruction

Purpose
The purpose of this work instruction is to enumerate quality and safe work practices specifically pertaining to the
installation work (Removal of Existing AC unit ) - of various locations in accordance with the requirement specified
in the relevant specification.
All the activities in this Work instruction will be undertaken by the competent persons.

Scope
1. The work instruction is applicable to the dismanting work of AC Units as per the specification provided by
client.
2. The location of the work activities will vary with in the Site / Client premises.

Responsibility
The overall responsibility of this work
1. Manager - Hard Services (BY MTC)
To ensure work is carried out in accordance with the specifications and as per work Programmed.
To complete the assigned work with manpower & resource available in an efficient and safe manner by
fulfilling all the Quality & HSE norms related to the activity.
2. Facility Engineer / Supervisor (BY CLIENT)
He is responsible for ensuring that the workforce is well aware of the quality control instructions and safety
rules. He is also responsible for reading and executing the works as per approved work instruction. Co-
ordination with the MSO / AMSF, site execution staff, QA QC Engineer & HSE Officer.
3. QA/QC Engineer (BY CLIENT)
To identify specification requirements, assessing work instruction & inspect at various stages of work for
compliance and fulfill service requirements as per company policy and standards.
4. HSE Officer (BY MTC)
To provide installation team with risk assessment & mandatory safety precautions for each activity. Also
inspect at various stages of work to check compliance to HSE norms. He is responsible to maintain and
update all H.S.E. related documents and for providing weekly HSE briefing to the execution team.

1. Applicable PPE including safety harness.
2. Refrigerant pipes.
3. Rubber insulation.
4. PVC pipes.
5. Refrigerant.
6. Threaded rods.
7. Nut, bolts and washers.
8. Cotton waste
10. General items related to AC installation.

Tools, Instruments & Equipment:

1. Flaring / swaging / Tuber cutter Set.


2. Standard tool box kit
3. Standard Electrical Tool Box
4. Ladder

Manpower:
The entire activity will be performed by an installation team comprising of
1. Facility Engineer (By CLIENT)
2. Supervisor (By MTC)
3. Foreman (By MTC)
4. Technicians (By MTC)
5. Asst. Technicians / Helpers (By MTC)

Work Instructions
1. Pre-commencement requirements:
Before commencing the installation work, the following works are required to be carried out.
1.1 Coordination and access with the client will be carried out.
1.2 All materials / tools will available for the specific area of work.
1.3 All hand tools will be ensured to be in safe working order and extension leads are not damaged.
1.4 Work instruction / Risk assessments with be discussed with all concerned parties.
1.5 All the technicians will be trained on method statement.
1.6 All constraints on operatives will be identified and precautions will be taken.
1.7 Work areas will be free from storage items or debris as per site conditions and requirements.
1.8 Any discrepancies, damages, etc. will be notified and reported for further action.
1.9 All materials received shall be inspected, handled and neatly stored in a designated place.
1.10 All damaged & old units will be handed over to client for disposal.
1.11 All approval status will be checked from the client.
1.12 All ladders/scaffoldings will be checked and made sure that they are free from any sharp edges, rust.
2. Operating Instructions
2.1. Erect scaffolding wherever required (depending upon elevation levels).
2.2. Use appropriate manpower to remove all the old units as per site requirement.
2.3. Secure the working areas.
2.4. Isolate the power supply of the AC units.
2.5. Disconnect drain pipes & Refrigerant pipes.
2.6. Remove the old unit and handover to client.
2.7. Remove the old pipes and dispose them to MTC yard.

2.8. Remove all debris and clear the site.


2.9. Enforce good housekeeping during and after work.

3. Quality Assurance & Control Instructions (Both by CLIENT & MTC).


In general, it shall be ensured by the Facility Engineer that product manufacturer’s recommendations and
standards are followed and shall be monitored by QC Engineer.
However, the following points shall be ensured in particular:
3.1 Skilled labor is used for installation activity.
3.2 QC inspections shall be carried out as per the standards and manufacturer’s instructions.
3.3 Any installation activity is in accordance with Local authority’s rules and regulation.
3.4 Any inspections and its corrective actions shall be recorded and maintained for reference.

4. Health, Safety & Environment Requirements


4.1 During the installation activities, all the safety precautions shall be followed as per the approved HSE
plan for School / Client.
4.2 Proper tool box talk shall be given to the personnel involving in the installation activity by Supervisor
/ Area supervisor.
4.3 All operatives shall be issued with the correct PPE as identified in risk assessment.
4.4 Height work shall be supervised by Supervisor/ Area supervisor till work completion.
4.5 Scaffolding will be erected, altered and dismantled by the competent person.
4.6 Scaffolding must be inspected, tagged and approved for use by client (If required).
4.7 Any work involving manual handling must be properly planned. Mechanical lifting equipment to be
used wherever possible.
4.8 Any lifting operation shall carry out by competent personnel and according to the lifting instructions.
4.9 Any hazardous material used for the job must be properly accessed using MSDS / Control of
Substance Hazardous to Health (COSHH) form. All control measures to be established against the
identified risk for all COSHH materials.
4.10 The following safety equipment should be available during this activity:
4.10.1 Coverall
4.10.2 Hard Hat or Safety Helmet (CE Marked)

4.10.3 Safety glass and mask during application


4.10.4 High visibility safety vest – Yellow (CE Marked) {as per client / school permission}
4.10.5 Hand gloves (cotton knitted gloves)
4.10.6 Safety shoes
4.10.7 Safety signs, Safety barriers and Caution tape, etc.
4.11 Safety checks shall be made prior to commencement of work in order to ensure that materials and
equipment’s are in safe working order in accordance with school / local regulations. (by client)
4.12 Relevant Risk Assessment form will be referred prior to any activities commencing.
