Wound Healing Effect of Mallungay Moringa oliefera Leaf Extract on the Wounds
of Mice Mus musculus
A. Rationale
The healing process of wounds has been a significant concern for various living things,
especially with the risks of infection and scarring. The use of natural products has been a
common method of promoting wound healing due to their potential anti-inflammatory and
oliefera, is a plant commonly found in tropical countries, containing several active compounds
with diverse medicinal properties, including wound healing (Farooq Anwar, 2006).
The use of natural products such as Moringa oliefera leaf extract has increased interest
among researchers and health professionals due to their potential wound-healing properties. If
this study provides evidence in support of the healing effect of Moringa oliefera leaf extract on
mice, it can open up new possibilities for the plant's use as a therapeutic agent (Jed W. Fahey,
2005). This study emphasizes the need to continue to explore natural and accessible
Several studies have shown the wound-healing properties of Moringa oliefera leaf
extract. The plant contains flavonoids and phenolic acids, which are potent antioxidants that
speed up the healing process (Simona Martinotti, 2015). However, while previous research has
been conducted to evaluate the effects of extracts of the leaves on rats, there is a paucity of
research on the healing effect of Moringa oliefera leaf extract on mice. Mice models provide a
suitable alternative for evaluating the effects of various substances on the healing process
In conclusion, this study aims to investigate the potential healing effects of Moringa
oliefera leaf extract on wounds in a mouse model. The use of the extract provides a promising
solution for wound healing, thus reducing the need for expensive conventional treatments that
may cause adverse reactions. The study will examine the changes in skin structure, wound
contraction, and re-epithelialization rate over a given healing period. The findings of this
investigation may provide additional information on the safety and efficacy of the extract,
which can make it more accessible to mice and also possible for humans with minor injuries.
The study aims to find out if Malunggay Moringa oliefera leaf extract have a
1.1 determine the wound healing effect of Malunggay Moringa oleifera leaf
1.2 determine if the wound healing effect of Malunggay Moringa oleifera leaf
2.1 there is no significant difference in the effectivity time of the wound healing
2.2 there is no significant difference in the effectivity time between the wound
3. Expected Outcomes
The study will expect that:
3.1 the Malunggay Moringa oliefera leaf extract will have a wound healing effect
3.2 the wound healing effect of Malunggay Moringa oleifera leaf extract is
C..Procedures
Fresh Malunggay Moringa Oleifera leaves will be collected from Atabay, Tobias Fornier,
Antique and will wash them thoroughly with distilled water. Then, will also dry the leaves and
grind them into a fine powder. Weigh 100g of the powdered leaves and extract them using 500
ml of distilled water. Boil the mixture for 10 minutes, then cool and filter it using a sterile filter
Use healthy Mus musculus mice with a weight range of 20-30g. House the mice in a
clean cage with standard feeding and environmental conditions. Prior to the experiment, shave
the hair on the back of the mice using an electric razor and clean the area with 70% alcohol.
Using sterile surgical scissors, make two full-thickness excision wounds (circular, 5mm
diameter) on the shaven area of each mouse. The wounds should be made at a distance of about 1
cm from each other.
Randomly divide the mice into three groups, each containing ten mice. Group 1 will be
the control group and will receive no treatment. Group 2 and group 3 will be the experimental
groups and will receive daily treatment with 0.5 ml of 5% and 10% Malunggay Moringa Oleifera
Starting on the day of wounding, apply 0.5ml of the assigned Malunggay Moringa
Oleifera leaf extract on the wounds of each mouse in the experimental groups using a sterile
syringe and needle. The application should be done daily until complete wound healing is
achieved.
Observe the wounds daily for signs of healing such as wound contraction, formation of
granulation tissue, and wound closure. Record the wound diameter, the percentage of wound
closure, and the time taken for complete wound healing in each group.
7. Statistical analysis.
Use appropriate statistical tests such as the t-test or ANOVA to analyze the data obtained
