Traffic Notes
Surface Movement Guidance and Control System (SMGCS):
This system consists of the provisions for guidance, control or regulation, to safe OPS of ACFT, GND
vehicle and personnel on the AD during LVP.
If Advanced SMGCS (A-SMGCS) unserviceable:
- ATC will restrict ACFT and vehicle access to and movements on manoeuvering area.
- Postion reporting procedures will be implemented as required by ATC.
Transponder Operation
For details on Transponder Mode S Operation see CRAR Australia and in addition;
ACFT fitted with Mode 3A/C transponders only are not able to participate in ILS PRM OPS. ACFT with
Mode S transponders are able to participate. If unable to participate pilots must notify ATC prior to D120
SY, or if departing within D120 SY, on first contact with ATC.
Preferential RWY
For arrival, ATC will not nominate RWYs other than 16R or 34L when the RWYs are wet with a tailwind
component.

Aerobridge Lighting Configuration:
The Aerobridge Retracted Indicator consists of two lights. The green light indicates the aerobridge is in
the fully retracted position. The red light indicates that the aerobridge is not fully retracted or that an
element of the VDGS is unserviceable. Should flight crew see a red light on any aerobridge they should
not continue onto the bay until the aerobridge is repositioned and a green light is shown.
Ground Control: Unless otherwise instructed by ATC, following routes apply:
- TWY B - northbound.
- TWY C - southbound.
- TWY B10 - eastbound between TWY C and RWY 16L/34R.

Long range ACFT (EET greater than 3HR) with ETA Sydney between 1900-2100‡ are REQ to advise
Australian ATC of Mach number on first contact and must obtain ATC approval for change of Mach
number above Mach 0.02.
ACFT LDG RWY 16L/34R remain on TWR FREQ until west of TWY S, then contact GND.
ARR ACFT advise parking bay on first contact with GND.
COM Failure: See CRAR Australia and in addition;
- PROC in IMC: Comply with vertical navigation requirements but not below MSA.
- Track via latest STAR CLR to the nominated RWY, then fly the most suitable APCH.
If under pilot navigation track via STAR to SY VOR, then fly the most suitable INSTR APCH to the
nominated RWY (if assigned RWY 16L proceed to RWY 16R or if assigned RWY 34R proceed to RWY 34L).
If under radar vector maintain vector for 2min, then fly the most suitable INSTR APCH (straight-in when

Visual Approaches
In the event of a radio failure (or blocked FREQ) on the APCH FREQ, pilots must comply with the following
actions:
On Pilot Navigation
- Track to intercept final at a MAX 30° prior to the IAF for the nominated RWY. Do not pass through
final of the nominated RWY.
On a RADAR Assigned HDG
- Maintain assigned vector for no longer than 2min. Track as required to join final for the nominated
RWY at a MAX 30° intercept to commence final. Do not pass through final of the nominated RWY.
Arrival Procedure

Ground Delay Program (GDP)
GDP Inbound
Sydney GDP is applicable to all ACFT, non priority flights departing from all Australian domestic AD, and
arriving at Sydney between 2000-1300‡. Flights to Sydney during the operation of GDP must obtain an
ACA slot and COBT. COBT can be obtained through their company or National Operations Centre. Flights
departing from Bankstown or Camden for a landing in Sydney must contact ATC prior ENG start-up.
Parallel RWY OPS
Independent Visual APCH (IVA)
Independent Visual APCH (IVA) bay be used during parallel OPS in RWY 16 or RWY 34 direction. Important

- Manage speed on base leg to ensure not to overshoot the CL.
- Fly accurate HDGs when being vectored to final.

ARRIVAL
- Vector for final will not be greater than 30°.
- Remain on DIR FREQ until established on final.
- ATC will provide surveillance or vertical separation until cleared for IVA.
- Do not pass through assigned RWY CL.
- Other ACFT will be operating on the adjacent APCH.
- TFC INFO will be provided if another ACFT is within 1NM on final.
- Respond to any TCAS alert in accordance with AFM.
- Phraseology will include "cleared Independent visual approach".
- Accurately track the extended RWY CL.
- When cleared for IVA, the requirements of the PROC must be followed.
- If for any reason, including radio failure or radio congestion, contact can not be established or
maintained with DIR such that it prevents an instruction being issued by ATC or a vectoring request
being made by the flight crew, do not pass through your assigned RCL. Commence the turn to enable
intercept of the final APCH course for the RWY assigned, then track the extended CL of assigned RWY.
- Wake turbulence encounters are possible.
- ILS critical aea is not protected.
ILS Precision RWY Monitor APCH (PRM):
Special training/familarisation compulsory for ILS PRM approval.
If unable to participate in an ILS PRM APCH, inform ATC prior to D120 SY. (If DEP within D120 SY on
first contact with ATC).
ATIS: Will advise when ILS PRM APCH in progress.
Dual VHF COM required
To avoid blocked transmissions, each RWY will have both, a TWR and a PRM FREQ.
Pilots must transmit on TWR FREQ, but listen to both.
It is important that the volume of both FREQ is set to the same level so that transmissions are heard on
at least one FREQ if the other is blocked.
Pilots must have relevant PRM FREQ selected prior to transfer to ATC. It is important the PRM FREQ is
preset prior to transfer.
Autopilot coupled APCHs: It is recommended that ILS PRM APCHs are flown with autopilot coupled.
TCAS Selection
Pilots may select TCAS in TA mode or maintain RA mode on receipt of instruction to contact TWR.
Hand Fly a Breakout
With Breakout instruction issued from an ILS PRM APCH time is critical. All Breakout PROC must be hand
flown. In exceptional cirumstances a descending breakout may be given but the assigned ALT will not
be below the applicable minimum vectoring ALT.
Deviations
ILS PRM radar dispalys indications if ACFT track will take it to the NO TRANSGRESSION ZONE within the
next 10 seconds if no course alternation is made. In this situation advice will be given by ATC.
Phraseology will be:``Radar indicates you are deviating left/right of the LOC course".

Between 0900-2100‡ prefered Flight Path Procedures apply.
1. Prefered flight path procedures all RWYs:
- Delay deployment of flaps until operationally required.
- Jet ACFT landing RWY 07 will not be permitted to descend below 3000ft over build-up areas until
aligned with RWY CL prior to ANKUB.
- Other ACFT won't be permitted to descend below 2000ft over built-up areas until aligned with RWY
CL.
- ATC will make frequent use of seaward tracking during night hours.
Specials:
LDG RWY 34L and 34R: Jet ACFT have to apply prefered flight path procedures at all times.
LDG RWY 07: Do not descend below 3000ft over built-up areas until aligned with RWY CL prior to GLF.
2. Designated Flight Corridors:
Arriving Jet ACFT must fly within the appropriate designated flight corridor for RWYs 34L and 34R as
charted on Noise Abatement ARR RWYs 34L/R IAC's for corridors A and C.
During curfew hours (1300-2000‡) this applies to all ACFT.
Reverse
Use minimum reverse thrust necessary for safe OPS of ACFT.
Do not plan to land at YSSY if any unserviceability of ACFT would mean that reverse thrust greater than
idle must be used.
This restriction is only applicable during the curfew period.
If an ACFT has to perform a MISAP or use reverse thrust greater than idle after LDG during the curfew
period, a report has to be filed to Airservices Australia within 7 days including following items:
- date and time,
- ACFT registration, operator and type,
- type of ENG and,
- reason why reverse thrust greater than idle PWR was used, or
- reasons for the MISAP incl. the wind CONDs prevailing at the time and downwind limits stated in the
AFM.
Minimum Runway Occupancy Time (MROT)
Ensure standard MROT procedures and in addition;
- Whenever operational conditions permit, expect to vacate RWY via the following TWYs.
- Plan a predictable and efficient exit from RWY and if an exit other than the preferred is required,
advise TWR on first contact.
- Landing Exit Distances (LED), distance from THR to the furthest edge of the exit TWY, provided to
assist planning.
