PART I
A. Introduction
Our ancestors enjoyed playing different games before the computers and play stations came to be. Those
games were part of our history and culture. Traditional games or Indigenous games (known as “Laro ng Lahi”)
were played informally with minimal equipment and can be played without reference or written rules due to
limited resources. Games stimulate children’s growth and development, physically as well as intellectually. It
B. Discussion
Target Games – are activities in which players send an object towards the target while avoiding obstacles. An
unopposed game, the contender only aims to hit the target to score while in an opposed game, the player uses
offensive or defensive strategies to a goal. These games can be played indoor or outdoor.
1. Tatsing – one of our indigenous games are Hispanic in origin. The game was played by the Tagalogs of
Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija. The word Tatsing was loaned from the English word “touching.” Before the
start of the game, each player throws his/her “pamato” near the starting line. The player whose “pamato”
landed near the starting line plays first and so on. The first player located before the starting line will try to hit
the bottle caps out of the square without leaving the “pamato” inside the square. The player will continuously
hit the bottle caps until he/she loses his turn by leaving the “pamato” inside the square. The player with the
2. Sipa – A player will hit a washer (sipa) several times, using his/her foot, knee, or elbow. The player must
count the number of times he/she hits or kick the washer and must not allow it to touch the ground. If the
washer touches the ground, chances for other players to play sipa. The player with the most number of
hits/kicks, wins.
3. Luksong Baka - One player “it” “Baka” (cow) crouches while the other players jump over him/her. As the
game progresses, the “it” “Baka” (cow) slowly raises his/her body making it difficult for the other players to
jump over him/her. The player who touches the “Baka” (cow), becomes the “it”.

4. Piko – Is the Pinoy version of hopscotch. They throw the pamato. Which is Usually the stone or small ball
in one of the boxes drawn out in chalk. Whoever successfully throws and retrieves the stone wins the game.
5. Palo Sebo – A player attempts to climb a greased bamboo pole. His/Her target is to reach the top and get a
1. Batuhang Bola “Dodge Ball” – It is a game played by two teams, one team served as “it” they throw the

the first player hits the stuck-out small wood in the hole and hits it in the air. The hitter gets a point if he/she
makes a run in the playing area. If the opponent catches the small stick, he/she is the next hitter.
5. Calahoyo (Hole-in) – A small hole and a throwing line connected by a longer line (five to six meters). Each
player has a big stone (pamato) and a small stone (anak). The player whose big stone is in the nearest hole
throws first. Players attempt to hit the small stones into the hole until only one is left outside the hole.
Allplayers whose small stones are thrown inside the hole are winners and the players whose small stones are
6. Ubusan ng Lahi (Clannicide) – One tries to conquer the members of the group (as in claiming the member
of another’s clan). The tagged player from the main group automatically becomes an ally of the tagger. The
