The 2023 CODDCCAS was held last April 27, 2023 at the Iriga Convention Center, Iriga City
with the theme "Culture, Peace, People: Invigorating Themes in the Arts and Sciences." It was
attended by faculty members from various universities and colleges in the Bicol Region. The
first part of the conference was the presentation of CHED updates and discussion of the
integration of topics on Indigenous Peoples and Peace Education in the curriculum.
Dr. Jean Salalima-Go, CHED Education Supervisor II presented updates such as the national
priority courses in arts and sciences, scholarship programs for both students and faculty,
guidelines on off-campus activities, and latest HEI rankings.
Atty. Leo Archival I. Imperial (Regional Legal Officer-NCIP Region V) discussed the highlights of
the Indigenous People Rights Act of 1997 (IPRA) while Atty. Alex Nepomuceno (Dean, BU
CSSP) shared strategies on how Higher Education Institutions can integrate Peace
Studies/Education into relevant higher education curricula anchoring on the CHED
Memorandum No. 01, series of 2019.
The second part of the assembly was the election and oath-taking of the CODDCASS officers
for 2023-2025.
Benefit/s Derived:
1. The event provided an opportunity to build networks with faculty from the different fields in the
arts and sciences of various universities and colleges in the Bicol Region.
2. The conference provided strategies on how faculty can integrate IP concepts and peace
education in the subjects/courses taught.
