Peer assessment is the ability to take responsibility to assess other students work with a given

criteria or standard given by the institution. We use it at University of the People to develop and

to broaden student’s knowledge by interaction with each other to receive constructive feedback

under the supervision of an instructor.

2. What are the benefits of peer assessment?

Benefits for peer assessments is that students interactive with each other with positive

feedback or critique of their work and learn from fellow peers to improve their knowledge.

3. What are the challenges of giving peer feedback in peer assessment?

Challenges of giving peer feedback may consist of students that don’t give marks according

to the assessment quality, they might grade a friend a higher mark and they might feel that they

are inadequate in giving a reasonable mark.

4. What are the challenges of receiving peer feedback in peer assessment?

Challenges in receiving feedback on peer assessment could be affected by students that

can’t process critique or any feedback from peers. There might be a disagreement between

peers when students have limited knowledge over a certain subject and this will lead them to

not accept input from other peers.

5. What strategies will you use to peer assess written assignments? How will you assess

discussion assignments?

Strategies I will use to assess written assignments are the following:

1. Go through the rubrics and criteria before giving a mark.

2. Read through the assignment, make sure you have read and understand what your fellow

peer meant.

3. Give the marks; make sure the mark is fair for the work that has been done.

4. Give feedback to the peer, by doing this you and the peer will learn from this assignment.

I will assess discussion assignments in the following way:

1. Stay open minded. Evaluate only when you are in a good mood or place, when you are

angry or stressed negative feedback will arise and it won’t be constructive.

2. Understand the assignment, and check how the assignment was written.

3. Check APA styling, Citations and references.

4. When unsure of everything, ask an instructor and other peers to assist.
