Part I
Question 1

(a) Consider the average daily temperature of your residential area, provide the data for 30
consecutive days (in degree Celsius and correct to one decimal places). Your data must be
obtained from a reliable source (please provide the link).

(b) Based on the data in (a), you are required to prepare a table (for grouped data) as shown
in (b)(ii). Answer the following questions.

(i) Determine the number of classes and the class width (class size).
(2 marks)
(ii) Complete the following table based on (b)(i).

(v) Find the first and third quartiles from the ogive obtained in (b)(iv).

(iv) Determine whether the distribution of the data is right skewed, symmetric or
left skewed. Justify your answer.

Based on the data you obtained in Question 1(a), answer the following questions by using
formula (ungrouped data) correct to one decimal place.

(i) Arrange the data in ascending order.

(ii) Determine the mean.

(iii) Find the mode (your answer may not be unique).
(2 marks)
(iv) Find the median.
(2 marks)
(v) Evaluate the variance and state the standard deviation.
(3 marks)
(vi) Compute the first and second Pearson’s Coefficient of skewness.
(4 marks)
(b) By considering Question 1(b)(ii), compute Question 2(a)(ii) and 2(a)(v) by the means of
group data (correct to one decimal place).

(c) By comparing Question 2(a) and 2(b) on the corresponding parameters, which result is
more accurate? Provide your reasons.
