SPU208E Fundamentals of Public Policy

ASSESSMENT: 60% COURSE WORK

A. Presentation 20%

1. Full marks of this component: 20.

2. Marks for this component is fully based on group performance, every member in the same
group will get the same mark.
3. Each group is expected to (a) watch one (or several) documentary, and (d) prepare a 10-
15min presentation to discuss the issue(s),
4. In your presentation, you must identify the social issue(s) from the documentary you have
watched and suggest solution(s),
5. In each week’s tutorial, only ONE group shall present.
6. The first presentation will start on Week 3 (13 April 2023).

B. Assignment (Group Assignment) 20%

1. Full marks of this component: 20.

2. Assessment for this component is fully based on group performance too, every member in the
same group will get the same mark.
3. Each group shall submit a report via e-learning A WEEK after presentation in tutorial class.
4. ONE GROUP shall submit ONE REPORT ONLY.
5. The report
a. is to discuss and analyse the social issue and public policy in the documentary you
have watched
b. must be written in the form of ESSAY, and NOT in point form nor Power Point
c. should be NOT more than 3 pages (not including the cover page)
d. must contain the following:
i. analysis and discussion of the social issue(s) as indicated in but not limited to
the documentary
ii. concepts and theories of policy studies
iii. must provide suggestion(s) for solution and explain how these suggestion(s)
might solve those issue(s)
e. must be saved in Word or PDF format and named with KOD KURSUS followed by
ASSIGNMENT TYPE, GROUP NUMBER and TUTORIAL SLOT, eg. “SPU208E-
group assignment-T3 G6”, “SPU208E-group assignment-T1 G3” etc.

C. E-learning (Individual Assignment) 20%

1. This assignment consists of two parts;

a. Part I (10%):

Every student is expected to submit a 3-page essay.

In this 3-page essay, you are required to (i) identify one social issue, which MUST
BE DIFFERENT FROM the topic in group assignment and presentation, (ii) discuss,
analyse and come up with a possible policy solution for the issue you have identified.

Every student is expected to conduct proper literature review of the social issue they
have identified and to credit ALL sources cited in the essay. Any uncited work, or
statements or ideas of others are considered stealing and will not be tolerated.

b. Part II (10%): You must also identify AT LEAST two websites and explain how the
two (or more) websites help you with understanding and analysing social issues and
public policy you have identified. The discussion of the selected website must be
submitted as an appendix (lampiran), of not more than 2 pages, together with the 3-
page report. Full marks for this particular task is 10%.

c. Submission deadline: 5pm, Monday, 3 July 2023, via E-learning.
