VACANCIES

Beit CURE International Hospital (BCIH) is a Christian mission hospital providing free orthopedic health care for
children in Malawi, a teaching hospital that specializes in treating the orthopedic needs of children and champions the
cause of children and families burdened with physically disabling conditions that can be corrected or alleviated
through surgical interventions. The integral mission for BCIH is “ Healing the sick and proclaiming the Kingdom of
God“

The hospital has the following vacant positions. All positions are on renewable specified-term contracts.

1. DEPUTY SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR

PURPOSE: Reporting to the Spiritual Director, the Deputy Spiritual Director (DSD) articulates the administrative
oversight of the BCIHM Spiritual Centre. S/He is expected to establish a fair process by which religious/spiritual
organizations and individuals are engaged in attending chapel sessions and religious/spiritual activities. The DSD is
expected to support the Spiritual Director in coordinating the smooth running of the activities of the Directorate. The
DSD is accountable for providing leadership, direction and expertise in all aspects of the BCIHM Spiritual Care
programs, ensuring that Spiritual Care Services are well aligned and achieved. Within the framework of BCIHM
integral mission, the DSDt represents the diverse spiritual, religious and cultural needs of all BCHIM patients. The
main purpose of this role is to promote a vision of Spiritual Care excellence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

a) In consultation with the Spiritual Director, coordinates Staff spiritual development which entails sitting in for staff
interviews and new staff spiritual orientation, staff discipleship and counselling;
b) Building and maintaining spiritual awareness of the hospital’s customers and the orthopedic services which
BCIHM operates on;
c) Facilitating the implementation of good ministry standards requirements and Strategic plan;
d) Managing the Pastoral Care Service in the Hospital by providing appropriate spiritual and pastoral care for
patients, their families and friends, staff and volunteers, regardless of faith or life stance;
e) Acting as a specialist resource within the Hospital in relation to religious, theological, spiritual, pastoral, ethical
and bereavement issues and coordinate the Spiritual Centre Committee meetings;
f) Providing emotional and spiritual support to patients, their families and Hospital staff within the established
standards of the Department;
g) Leading, directing and developing internal crisis responses, facilitating debriefings and memorials, following
established tragedy protocols;
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

a) Minimum of Diploma from a recognized Bible/Theological College;


b) At least 3 years’ supervisory experience as a pastor or chaplain within a health institution or similar setting;
and,

KEY COMPENTICIES

a) Absolute demonstration of a mature Christian faith with a close personal relationship with the Lord as
evidenced by a strong prayer life;
b) Commitment to and love for the Word of God, and a call to evangelism;
c) Strong ability to conduct counseling and mentoring in a Biblically appropriate manner; and,
d) Demonstrated ability to preach to groups of all sizes. Demonstrated ability to lead small group, inductive
Bible studies (e.g. Christianity Explored, Discipleship Explored and departmental devotions;
e) Be able to work in a multicultural set up

2. DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMS & DEVELOPMENT

PURPOSE: Reporting to the Executive Director, the S/he will be a member of the Leadership Management Team
and will oversee all the Business Development projects that are crucial to the revenue growth at BCIHM. Working
along with BCIHM partners and various agencies, S/he will be expected to come up with effective communication
and branding mechanisms for BCIHM. S/he is also expected to come up with innovative ideas and solutions to the
existing healthcare business issues being faced by BCIHM. S/he will interact with senior management, operations,
finance and the BCIHM network teams in relation to the business development matters and is expected to cover all
aspects of business development from maintaining an overview of all income streams, working on branding and
marketing activities plus planning and executing fundraising strategies to develop enhanced local donation flows as
well as being responsible for all programs relating to patient recruitment and business development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

a. Participate in the business development strategy development for the hospital with a view on positioning the
hospital competitiveness in the market.
b. Identify foundations/corporate social responsibility programs working in Malawi and develop a strategy on
working with them to support the hospital activities.
c. Work together with the Mobile Clinic Coordinator to ensure the implementation of the mobile clinics
programs to make it a gateway for private patients in addition for it bringing in the general patients 
d. Organizing publicity events and other events within the hospital, local community partnership events and
collaborating with relevant government agencies in arranging community awareness campaigns.
e. Preparing the BCIHM business development budget and continually track expenses, as well as making sure
that revenue targets are achieved as planned;
f. Developing organizational fundraising and corporate sponsorship capability and ensuring that child surgery
sponsorships are obtained every year from companies and organizations throughout Malawi–churches,
corporates and individuals;
g. Maintaining a system of tracking donor reporting and ensuring that all reports are dispatched on time and to
agreed standard, set up and maintain donor database; and,
h. Managing BCIHM advertisements and public relations support services and ensuring that all literature,
magazine and websites are kept up to date with relevant information;
i. Coordinating all promotional activities of the hospital including radio and television programmes;
j. Creating and presenting presentations on targets, impact measurement, goals for the business development
section for regular reviews with senior management.
k. Continuous improvement on the integration of Christian values when undertaking all hospital activities as
customers have identified this as key strength of the Hospital.
l. Coordinate closely Donor and Communications manager in coming up with branding designs that are
representative of the organizations mission and vision.
m. Carry out continuous innovation, research and development to ensure that the organization is able to
respond timely to the changing market trends.
n. Handles all issues of quality within the department in line with the Hospital’s quality standards.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

a) Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration / Marketing/Commerce/ Finance or any related field.


b) At least 5 years’ proven hands on work experience in Business Development;
c) Practical knowledge on standard fundraising techniques, proposal writing, special event and fundraising
reporting will be an added advantage. Competencies

3. DATA ENTRY CLERK

Reporting to the Chief accountant and supporting the Supply Chain and Records Management teams in ensuring that
critical data required for orders and shipments planning, hospital operations is kept up to date s/he will need to juggle
multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of attention to detail. The ideal candidate will have experience
working in inventory management and sensitive data records management in a fast-paced environment with
competing priorities, and must demonstrate superior organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as flexibility
and good communication with a variety of stakeholders. Data entry, processing and monitoring transfers, inventory
and stock adjustments on a daily basis.  Track deliveries, verifying inventory availability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 Compile and maintain records of quantity and type of all inventory


 Coordinate the receiving and accounting inventory.
 Monitor incoming and outgoing shipment for proper count of inventory
 Ensure purchase order data are accurate based on updates from vendors.
 Confirm receipt of items in electronic system for international shipments.
 Perform data cleaning activities.
 Collect data to measure key performance indicators for the Supply Chain & Logistics team and Record
Management Team.
 Prepares source data for computer entry by compiling and sorting information
 Resolve deficiencies by using standard procedures or returning incomplete documents to the team leader
for resolution
 Maintains operations by following policies and procedures and reporting needed changes.
 Secure information by completing data base backups

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

 Diploma in basic Computer Application


 Minimum two years’ experience in data entry, preferably in a hospital setting

 Must be exceptionally detailed, and perform job functions with speed and accuracy; prioritize, organize and
follow-up
 Proficient with computers, including experience with browser-based software services, spreadsheet
software functions and formulas, word processing, and email. 
 Follow directions thoroughly
 Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team
 Work with minimal supervision
 Maintain confidentiality 
 Experience with Odoo Softwaware will be an added advantage

4. NURSES (2 POSITIONS)

PURPOSE: A nurse works as a member of the nursing team, with the Nurse In-charge as a team leader, in the
provision of acceptable standards of nursing care and comfort to assigned patients, in accordance with the agreed
hospital policies. She/he is also expected to attend theatre regularly.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

The candidates should preferably be a holder of Degree in Nursing with at least 3 years’ experience in orthopaedic,
paediatric and theatre nursing, those with Diploma in Nursing and at least 5 years work experience 2 of which should
be in orthopaedic, paediatric and theatre nursing, can also apply. Candidates should have current nurses license,
registered with Nurses and Midwifery Council of Malawi.

5. DATA COLLECTOR

PURPOSE: Under the overall guidance of the Monitoring and Evaluation Director and direct supervision of the
Program Director, the Data Collector (DC) will be responsible for implementing the M&E activities of the hospital;
specifically, the DC will administer three surveys to patients during their inpatient stays and again at 12 months post-
operation. The DC will also develop procedures that outline their work and support the hospital’s research initiatives
by collecting relevant data.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Primary Responsibilities
o Effectively administer WHODAS 2.0, EQ-5D, and spiritual surveys using the electronic medical
record
o Collect and input M&E data for patients in accordance with established procedures, for ongoing
baseline reporting 
o Obtain 12-month follow up surveys from patients during mobile clinic visits to rural areas
o Ensure data cleanliness and integrity
o Develop and strengthen monitoring, inspection, and evaluation procedures 
o Generate monthly narrative report of activities and as needed per leadership’s requests and DC
capacity 
o Assist hospital personnel with M&E tools and support them in their use, training and retraining as
necessary
o Produce monthly narrative report to describe M&E activities 
o Support the clinical team in the quality improvement, audit and research projects that will further
inform the clinical service, including patient recruitment, data collection and logistical support

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. University Degree preferably in data, statistics, or related field
2. Strong training and facilitation skills
3. Experience in the implementation of M&E in development projects implemented by national/international
NGOs/Government; desirable
4. Experience in designing tools and strategies for data collection, analysis and production of reports; desirable
5. Ability to fluently speak multiple local languages from all regions of Malawi will be an added advantage.
