NOTICE

A notice is an announcement that gives information about something. Notices are often written for a
general audience. Notice on a notice board should be designed to attract attention of all those who
pass by it. A notice serves to convey information ,instructions, requests or announcements to staff
members within an organisation. It is a form of mass communication and is not directed to an
individual.

ADVANTAGES

• There is no guarantee that the message will reach those concerned

• Communication process is one way only so direct feedback and response is difficult to
determine

There is need then to bare the following in mind when drafting notices:

be big enough to be easily seen
• Any interesting devices such as arrows, strips of coloured tape or a hand with a pointing
finger may be used to attract attention
• The notices should be changed regularly so that information is always recent and relevant

• The date in full
• The name of the organisation or company
• The heading/title which should be clear and communicate with the reader at ones
what the message is about
• For whom is the notice written for. This should state who should read the message
e.g To: The general public
• The content (this should be kept as simple as possible and the writer should point
out the key points as clearly as possible.
