for Regional Schools Press Conference
(RSPC) 2019 QUALIFIERS
(A Narrative Report)

Pursuant to Schools Division Memorandum No. 354 s. 2019, the Division Intensive Training Program (DITP) for
Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) 2019 Qualifiers and Teacher-Coaches dated November 13,14, and 15,
2019 was held at Barasoain Memorial Integrated School (BMIS).

This program aims to further enhance the journalistic competence of the campus journalists; update RSPC qualifiers on
the current trends in journalism; discuss the guidelines and mechanics of the RSPC 2019; and provide last minute
instructions to the RSPC delegates in Tarlac Province on November 27-28, 2019.

The first day of the training started with the opening and welcoming program hosted by Mam Jean A. Cabanilla,
SPA of Congressman Teodulo Natividad High School and Sir Raymond Curibang, SPA of Bulihan National
High School. Mr. Curibang introduced Dr. Edna C. Diaz, EPS-I in English and the Supervisor in-charge of
Campus Journalism who heartily welcomed the participants-the SPAs and SPJs to the 3-day event. She also
reminded the participants of the important things in preparation for RSPC. It was then followed by a roll call by
Sir John Philip T. Tan, Over-all Chairperson of the Division Intensive Training Program 2019. Registration of the
participants and coaches which was facilitated by the Technical Working Group members right after the roll call.

Sir Ramon Rafael Bonilla, editor of Business Mirror, shared his expertise in News Writing and Scienece Writing.
Sir Raymond Garlitos, a Manila Bulletin Correspondent and Sir Rupert Laxamana inspired the young Journalists
in Editorial Writing and Feature Writing respectively. Sir Rex San Diego, a freelance journalist, thoroughly
discussed on the techniques in writing a sports article. The ever witty Philippine Star Chief Cartoonist, Sir Rene
Aranda delicately trained the editorial cartoonists. Sir Lakandupil Garcia and Mark Liaban brought some winning
tips in Radio Broadcasting and Copyreading and Headline Writing. Sir Michael Angelo S. Sison in
photojournalism, Sir John Christopher Rafois in TV Broadcasting and Scriptwriting, and Sir Reggie Rey C. Fajardo
in Collaborative and Desktop Publishing intrinsically discussed their respective forte. Sir John Philip Tan
generously shared his knowledge and wisdom on School Paper Management.

One very important highlight of the training was the writing and submission of outputs of the CJs at the end of
session. Outputs were thoroughly judged and critiqued by the respective trainers.

The Journalists really did their best in their intensive training, perfecting their crafts, and listening intently to the
mentoring of their abled advisers.

Furthermore, securing the holistic capability of the campus journalists, a medical checkup headed by Dr.
Irmingardo Antonio as he checked and evaluated the participants’ health and physical readiness was conducted.

The 3-day Training Workshop was ended by the awarding of certificates of participation and recognition to the
resource speakers, advisers and young journalists.
DAY 1: OPENING and WELCOMING PROGRAM

The Opening and Welcoming Program are hosted by Ma’am Jean A. Cabanilla, SPA-Cong. Teodulo
Natividad HS , and Sir Raymond Curibang, SPA-Bulihan NHS.

REGISTRATION and Roll Call of Participants

Sir John Philip T. Tan, Over-all Chairperson of the Division Intensive Training Program 2019, made
the roll-call of the participants.

The participants, School Publication Advisers and School Publication Journalists alike registered in
the Attendance Sheet.
Days 1,2,and 3 able Resource Speakers of the different categories.

Sir Raymond Garlitos, a Manila Bulletin Correspondent and Sir Rupert Laxamana inspired the young
Journalists in Editorial Writing and Feature Writing.

Mam Isabel Cruz and Sir John Philip Tan intrinsically discussed the winning tips in Science Writing
and Sports Writing.

Sir Lakandupil Garcia and Mark Liaban brought some winning tips in Radio Broadcasting and
Copyreading and Headlinewriting.
The Journalists in their intense training, perfecting their crafts, and listening intently
to the mentoring of their able advisers.
The Medical Team headed by Dr. Irmingardo Antonio, checked and evaluated the
participants’ health and physical readiness .
The food is carefully handled by the advisers and delivered on time to their respective
mentees.
The 3-day Training Workshop ended by Awarding of Certificates of Participation and
Recognition to the Resource Speakers, Advisers and Young Journalists.
