Executive Summary

When COVID-19 hit, the Department of Education together with schools and
other educational institutions had to reinvent effective approaches to
learning and teaching in record time. The education field realized that
teaching and learning would need a different approach in keeping learners
engaged and must produce a growing body of useful resources to support
learners learning and well-being during such disruptive times. Despite of
this situation, educators are committed to quality teaching and continue to
innovate to provide engaging and safe learning experiences for learners
during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Using two-way radio and printed modules as modality in distance learning,

Lusuac Elementary School effectively ensures the delivery of learning to the
learners with the remarkable effort of parents, stakeholders, community,
barangay officials and LGU. In the distance learning approach, parents or
guardians play an active role in the learning process. They facilitate and
guide their children at home in using two-way radios and through the
modular lessons that are sent to the learners while doing the remote
learning. Parents or guardians responsibly interact with teachers, barangay
officials and other stakeholders to acquire the various materials and
resources needed by the learner.

The establishment of the School Learning Resource Center marks another

milestone. A stimulating Project LESIAN- “Learn, Explore, Study and Infer
Amid New normal” Lusuac Elementary School is geared towards creating
and maintaining the best learning experiences for the pupils to grow and
develop. The establishment of the SLRC on August 6, 2018 set a standard of
functionality for three consecutive years, securing a spot in the “Hall of
Fame” of small school category in the Schools Division of Abra. The SLRC
where learners can use both traditional and modern means to access
information, relax and learn contain a mixture of print materials, various
instruments, science equipment and apparatuses, math materials, toys,
plastic and bamboo products, mobile and many more. It provides relevant
teaching materials for teachers and pupils to explore and interact. SLRC
gives learners the chance to commune and learn with substantial materials
aside from what are being offered in the classrooms. The later, pupils will be
able to value and internalize that through constant reading and interacting
with materials they will learn to value education.

the impact should be data driven

Background/Rationale

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has caused a dramatic disruption in

the delivery of education and health services in our country. School closures
and challenges in the delivery of distance learning resulting learners
learning losses to be enormous. Thus, in this situation the new normal
should be taken into consideration in the planning and implementation of
the “New Normal Educational Policy”. Lusuac Elementary School focuses in
addressing the vital issues in education in the time of pandemic through the
PROJECT LESIAN (Learn, Explore, Study, and Infer Amid New normal).
The project LESIAN targets to support the continuation of teaching and
learning and gives central focus on the learners of Lusuac Elementary
School or Lesians during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The crisis in COVID-19 has forced the education system of our country to
find alternatives to face-to-face instruction. As a result, distance learning
has been used by the teachers and learners on an unprecedented scale. The
project LESIAN innovative ways address the issues about facilitating
learning and teaching learners at home by supporting and giving resources
needed in the distance learning.

what is the gap? Issue? What is the problem that needs the innovation?
Goal and Objectives

The Project LESIAN is an avenue to:

 Decreased problems of pupils with reading difficulty and across the

learning areas. By what percent?

 Respond to the educational needs of learners in providing printed and

non-printed learning materials through flexible learning pathways.

Designated as an innovative resource for distance learning in new normal,

the project LESIAN creates an important role in transitioning the “new
normal” of learning in unpredictable times. The impact of learners stuck at
home with little or no access to learning has been devastating. The project
LESIAN creates opportunities to reshape distance learning to a new
paradigm that is more resilient and robust. Meeting the needs of learners
and parents/guardians in terms of educational sources is one of the crucial
roles of project LESIAN.

The project LESIAN commitment to increase the nature and pace of learning
reform and more resources to education sets a greater awareness for the
‘’new normal’’ in achieving new skills, technology, training, and learning to
the learners and parents/guardians. It stimulates innovation as well as
flexibility in the learning delivery. and prepares learners better for the
future.

Thus, the project LESIAN outlook of creating alignment between

curriculum, teaching, assessment, and learning in non-school environment
to meet new normal educational challenges prepares learners better for the
future.

Reflections/Lessons Learned 4

When will we get back to normal? This is a question that no one knows the
answer. But come to think of it. Instead of asking this question, turn our
head to the “new normal” situation of education and embrace it. The
traditional set-up of teaching-learning process turned into distance learning.
It is a fact that education in the new normal needs a lot of adjustment but
never think that we cannot do anything to address the challenges the new
normal brought. No one was prepared when this pandemic struck us. True
that distance learning requires planning, preparation, diligence and
expertise not just for the teacher but especially for enabling support
systems. Learning at home with the parents/guardians as the facilitators of
learning is not a piece of cake. We may on the steep road (pandemic) that
has ups and downs but we must continue the journey until we reach our
destination (goal). Nothing is impossible for those who are optimistic and
find different ways to connect the gaps and be able to make out in distance
learning.

Yes, we find ways. The project LESIAN finds ways. It is an avenue designed
to innovate, reach out, and ensure that the basic physical, socio-emotional
and educational needs of the learners are meant as they start learning in
the time of new normal.

Sustainability

To sustain the project LESIAN, the key goal is to create collaborative

connections between the teachers, learners, parents/guardians, other
stakeholders and community. Another key goal is the inspiration to take
action and support the project. The learning materials and physical facilities
are well maintained to ensure the sustainability of the educational
resources.
