and
• Provide TA to teachers in producing their own individual
or group curriculum map for SY 2023-2024 using the

Curriculum Mapping
What is Curriculum Mapping?
• is a reflective process that helps teachers understand what has
been taught in a class, how it has been taught, and how
learning outcomes were assessed.
• process that results in a document known as a curriculum
map.

What is Curriculum Mapping?
• is an important task used to show proper alignment of
program goals, course objectives, instructional support
materials, formative assessment activities, summative
outcomes assessments, and finally the instructional plan.
• is the creation of a map showing the path of both teaching
and learning from start to finish.

Purpose/Importance of Curriculum Mapping

• Teachers can compare their curriculum map to national standards

or even to the curriculum map of other teachers who teach the
same subject and grade level.
• Curriculum maps can also be used as a planning tool to inform
future instruction.

Purpose/Importance of Curriculum Mapping

• Curriculum mapping also helps to improve overall coherence from

grade to grade, thus increasing the likelihood of students achieving
program- or school-level outcomes.
• Curriculum mapping as a systematic approach is most effective when it
is a system-wide process.

Systematic Curriculum Mapping

• Horizontal coherence
• when it is comparable to the curriculum of an equal lesson,
course, or grade level

• Vertical coherence
• when it is logically sequenced

Systematic Curriculum Mapping

• Subject area coherence

• when students receive equitable instruction and learn the same topics
across subject area classes

• Interdisciplinary coherence
• when teachers of multiple subject areas work together to improve the
key cross-curricula skills that students need to succeed in all grades
and subjects.

What is a Curriculum Map?
• should not be confused with a lesson plan.
• offers a long-term overview of what has already been taught.
It is not unusual for a curriculum map to cover an entire
school year.
• graphical illustrations that consist of a table or matrix.

What is alignment in Curriculum Mapping?
❖ Alignment is an important concept in curriculum mapping
and has a significant impact on instructional design,
instruction, and assessment.

❖ When striving for alignment, it is critical to start with the end

in mind. Some experts refer to this as backwards design
(Wiggins & McTighe, 2005).

❖ When mapping curriculum, this is where we need to start.
