PART 1 – Critical Research Portfolio
Introduction:
Research is a process of understanding new knowledge and exploring new methods and building
new ideas for businesses or any specific thing(Bell, Bryman et al. 2018). Here, we have analysed
three research items such as journals, book chapter and online essay those are more crucial to
any research study for the development of Introduction part, Literature Review part and
methodology of research. Each item has been critically assessed and provided specific logic of
usefulness to studies.

1.1: A Journal Article of Business Research Methods (Bell, Bryman et al. 2018)
This article has defined appropriately the research topic, aims, objectives, hypotheses, rationality
and questions of specific research. Before starting the business research, the research should
select specific and clear coherent topic. It is logical for the purpose of conducting primary and
secondary research. This is useful to determine specific aim of the study. Aim is another crucial
part that determines the direction of research what is attained by doing the research on the
specific topic. This is useful to the research project as this direct the researchers to keep on track
in an appropriate manner. Research objectives are also devised to meet them through completing
each one by the systematic ways. The objectives are useful to draw meaningful results for the
study by keeping on the track of research aim. However, research hypothesis is importantly
required to be described for the purpose of guessing the results of the study. These are also useful
to keep on the track of objectives of the study. The research objectives are critically assessed to
make research hypothesis effectively. In addition, there is needed to make research questions on
the objectives and hypotheses of the research study. Questions are more useful to review the
literatures and collect the primary data appropriately. This part of the research describes an
overall idea of research study that will be met by other parts of project. A background has also
been provided to review the whole research study at a glance. This is important to the readers to
get the basic outcomes of the study appropriately. This helps the readers to proceed in later part
of the research project. The rationality of this part describes the reasons of choosing the topic and
usefulness of the topic for businesses or other purposes that inspires the members of the research
effective to do task more efficient ways so that objectives can be met appropriately.

1.2: A Literature Review of Business-A Book Chapter (Aversano, Grasso et al. 2012)
It is also one of the integral parts of research study by which key aspects of the research items
are appropriately reviewed to provide critical analysis of the topic, aims and objectives. In this
part, secondary data is more effective to review the literatures of the findings. The secondary
sources are journals, newspapers, publications, magazines and annual reports of many companies
and entities. The literature part can be presented heading wise or summary basis of the studies.
For example, the topic of the effects of globalization on the businesses is chosen. The literature
review part will discuss about the concepts of globalization, impacts of globalization on the basis
of positive and negative aspects on the basis. This part is useful to make questionnaire for
primary data collection and analysis by qualitative ways. A qualitative analysis can be done
through taking the qualitative factors of the study by reviewing on the found literatures of the
study. The research publications among renowned journals are useful to make literature review
effectively as those provide already done topics and the findings are appropriate to update with
current research gaps on the chosen topic. This part is the critical analysis of the chosen topic to

3
understand the correlation and comparison of two ideas effectively. This is useful to predict
future endeavours of the research study that will be updated by completing a thorough research
in the effective manner. The research hypotheses are also critically analysed in this part to make
summary of the research results that will be found in later part of analysis of the study
appropriately. The importances of the literatures are more accuracy, dependency and validity and
reliability to the study. However, literatures are made to achieve the goals of data remembering,
understanding and gaining of research perspectives appropriately.

1.3: Online Essay of Research Methodology (Njå and Rake 2008)

This is the part of describing the methods of research, population, sampling, size of the survey,
data collection processes, data analysis processes. The research can be done by two famous
methods of primary and secondary on the basis of descriptive, qualitative and quantitative.
Primary research collects data from the filed primarily to analyse for the first time those are more
appropriate and accurate to the study. This is useful to the research as this provide accurate
finding with high efficiency for each level of study. However, secondary research is the study of
analysing already available and analysed data to update the research findings only. This is useful
to the research as it incurs low costs and less time of completion. Population is the part of group
of respondents of the survey that supplies primary data. The clients, customers and employees of
the entities are treated as important population of research study. Size of the survey means the
total number of samples are taken to analyse critically to meet the aims of the study. Sampling is
the process of analysing the probability and non-probability basis of taking samples to interpret
effectively. Clusters, simple random and convenient are the popular forms of sampling.
However, primary data is collected by survey the questionnaire through direct observation,
online, telephone, focus group and interview process. Secondary data is collected through
reviewing publications, journals and newspapers of some editorial speeches effectively.
Collected data is analysed by qualitative and quantitative ways. Pie chart, spread sheet, bar chart
and other statistical software are the parts of quantitative data analysis. Scenery, audios and
videos are interpreted theoretically to meet the objectives which are the part of qualitative
research process. The validity and reliability are examined by the maintaining of systematic
processes of research study and methods effectively.

Conclusion:
The research process is the systems of selecting an specific topic, reading out about this and
collecting data to analyse and making of outcomes effectively to reflect on the value of
conducting the task.

PART 2 – Reflective Report

Introduction:
This study of module provided me some knowledge about the key areas of research factors such
as the process of developing literatures, process of research topic selection and process of
determining the research methodologies. I have chosen these topics of research as without these
no research will be conducted effectively. Each research study is needed to clearly define the
aims and objectives. The literatures development helps me to understand about the basic
concepts of topic as this review the process of secondary data of many sources. However, this
study has provided me the process and methods of designing the qualitative and quantitative
researches on primary and secondary basis(Bell, Bryman et al. 2018).

Analysis of Development:
From the journal of business research methods I have learnt about the importance of research
aims, objectives and topic selection process. These learning is crucial to my research career as
this provided me capacity of categorizes the topic, critically analyse the aims and determining
the objectives of the research study. The learning is useful to describe and analyse the primary
data(Hair, Money et al. 2007). From The book chapter of literature review part of this module is
another learning point that provided me the knowledge of analysing secondary data, critically
assess the data and giving the basic knowledge of preparing questionnaire. The learning is useful
to me that those are effective to categorize each name of concepts. Evaluation of data is the
importance of literatures that provides judgements of the outcomes of the study(Jones and Wells
2007). These learning will be effective to compare between two outcomes to take the more
appropriate data and information by the application of sampling tools effectively(Perumal 2004).

From the online essay of research methodology that has provided me the learning of research
processes such as primary and secondary research. I have been well known about the costs of
both research that will be effective for my future research project to control the costs. Primary
research is also useful to draw valid and accurate research outcomes than secondary
research(Mugenda 1999). However, secondary research is also effective for its low cost and less
time completion than primary research. These information will help to choose what research
would be conducted in future on the basis of costs, time and effectiveness of the studies(Patten
and Newhart 2017). This part has provided me the process of collecting primary data and
secondary data. The learning will be useful to collect raw data by the application of best methods
of data collection like online and direct observation of primary approach(Perumal 2004).
However, the secondary data sources are also important for making questionnaire for collecting
raw data that will help me to store data and information in systematic way(Vogt 2007).

Conclusion:
Academic research is important to the businesses as this is able to provide market data and most
updated information about customers, clients, businesses and macro environment(Patten and
Newhart 2017). These helped the business owners to devise new strategies and new goals on the
basis of updated market conditions. The research study is also useful to innovate the methods of
systems and bring new design of products according to the feedbacks of clients and
customers(Cooper, Schindler et al. 2006). Research study is also useful for the cause of having
validity and reliability of findings. If business owners want to start new businesses, he is

5
suggested to conduct research study to know the markets and stakeholders of that business
appropriately.
