Scope of the Work: To study the Poten al Effect of neighboring Sheet Pile on Cathodic Protec on of
Exis ng Oil Pipes
Introduc on:
The E99 highway is provided with drainage channels on the west and east side in front of the security
wall. In order to complete the drainage works and to assure uninterrupted access to the FOIZ
terminals even during laying and maintenance of oil and service pipes, CMW in associa on with FOIZ
authori es plan to construct access bridges for each of the terminals.
The typical Access Bridge structure is resting on free standing sheet piles NSP IIIw (or equivalent)
having total depth of 9.0m from sheet pile top. These sheet piles are embedded to a depth of 200 mm in
the concrete abutment beam.
Please refer to Figure-2 below for the Typical cross sec on of the Access Bridge.
Below the bridge, oil pipes are running for different Terminals. These pipes are provided with
Cathodic Protec on system to protect the pipes from corrosion.
Now to construct the Access Bridge, steel sheet pile to be driven in soil neighboring the Oil pipes.
Sheet piles are not designed with any cathodic protec on.
Since the oil pipes are catholically protected and have not taken into account the effect of sheet pile
on pipe cathodic protec on, Oil Terminals want to know the impact of this proposed 9m length steel
sheet pile on the pipe cathodic protec on.
Page-1
To iden fy and know the effect of sheet piles, Length of Sheet pile, Depth of Ground water Table,
Distance from Sheet pile to Oil pipes and other informa on are required.
This informa on is furnished below for further analysis of the poten al impact of sheet pile on the
Oil pipes.
