Objectives: The participants should be able to:


1. Explain the importance of the Badge System in the personal development of the Scout.
2. Discuss the role & responsibilities of Scout Leader, parents and the Merit Badge Counselor in the
realization of the Badge System’s aims & purposes.
3. Demonstrate how Scout is advanced.
a. Enumerate and explain the four steps in advancement.
b. Use the forms in advancement correctly.

2. The Principle of Advancement
3. The Advancement Scheme of the Boy Scouts Section
4. The Steps In Advancement
5. Promoting and Administering Advancement
6. The Merit Badge Counselor

Method/Strategy:
Lecture:
 Explain the principles and philosophy of advancement.
 Discuss the advancement scheme for the Boy Scouting Section.
 The role of the Merit Badge Counselor and where to recruit them.

1. Demonstration: The Advancement Cycle.

Method/Strategy:
1. OPENER Song: “Upward Trail”

ACTIVITY:
Group discussion on the 4 areas of how a Scout is advanced through the Advancement Cycle
(from the Application of Merit Badge/Rank Advancement to a Troop Court of Honor).

ANALYSIS:
The proficiency of the boy in every merit badge earned in every rank.
ABSTRACTION:
Participants were able to fully understand the Scout Advancement Scheme and how they apply
it to their respective units.

APPLICATION:
Actual filling up of Advancement Report Forms and other related Documents.

FOLLOW-UP ACTIVITY:
Advancement form filling and question and answer.
