CHECK POINT / ACTIVITY REMARKS
NO
1 Check title block (Client name, P&ID name, Rev. No., Name etc.)
P&ID Should not be too much congested. Provide some free space considering possibility of future addition for
2
the Equipment, Instrument and pipe lines.

3 Prepare P&ID according to Process flow diagram. Show all equipment with its total quantity (along with spare).

If there are Vessel/Tanks/Reactors having different capacity, then tentative size difference among them should
4
be reflected in the drawing.
Equipment to be shown with tentative elevation as per its elevation from the GL. (There is no need to mark
5
elevation/level till any specific demand)
Show nozzle no. and sizes from PDS for all the equipment. (Cross check with MDS or fabrication drawing
6
in next revisions, we need to match P&ID and equipment data sheet ).
Check utility requirements (like cooling water, chilled water/ brine, nitrogen blanketing, plant air etc.) for
7
equipment. Refer equipment process data sheets for the same.
8 Check breather valve or flame arrestor requirement in vents for equipment. Refer PDS for information.
9 Check PSV requirement for safety of equipment in line or vessel, PRV/BPRV requirement in storage tanks etc.
10 If main line is crossing the other line, then break the other line at that crossing point.

Connect equipment with main process lines or other lines depending upon process. Lines containing main
11 process flow to be shown as main process lines and lines of vent, drain, utility, circulation etc. (except main
process flow) to be shown as other lines.
Check flags of inlet and outlet lines. Inlet Flag include P&ID no. and source equipment no. from where it is
12
coming from. And outlet Flag include P&ID no. and equipment no. where it is going.
Inlet flag to be at left most side end and outlet flag to be at right most side end. No need to end flag at side end
13
only for utility lines.
Provide unique line number for all lines. Prepare Excel sheet and update in it whenever new line no. is given. In
14
between two separate sub-P&IDs, give 10 to 20 no’s gap or as per decided in methodology.
Line no. basically includes Service, Line no., Line size, Material specification (MOC), and Insulation. Refer
15
legend sheet to give line no. Line numbering philosophy may vary based on project to project.
Line MOC to be choose based on process fluid compatibility generally same as equipment MOC. But recheck
16
according to process conditions.
If many lines (say ‘n’ lines) routed from one line than total (n-1) line numbers to be provided. But if separate
17 header is provided and other lines (‘n’ no.) are routed from header, then provide separate line no. for header
as well as all lines (‘n’ no.).
For the suction and discharge line of pumps, provide one-line number for working and standby pump suction line.
18 Provide one-line number for discharge line and one for circulation line. Give more line no only for special cases
like more than one working pump depending on process conditions.

No need to give line no. for vent lines of equipment’s which is open to atmosphere. But if there is high point vent
19
or vent line contains any instrument like flame arrester, breather valve, PRV, BPRV, etc. than provide line no.
20 Wherever MOC change is there in same line, provide spec break. Provide new line no after spec break.
Check and mark on lines wherever applicable: vapor line, gravity line, Slurry services line, barometric leg (along
21
with height in meter), and two-phase line.
22 Do P&ID wise line hydraulics for all lines and mark line sizes.
23 Provide minimum valves (LO-lock open) or no valves on vapor line, gravity line and barometric leg.
Check insulation (Hot, Cold, Personnel protection- PP) for lines as well as equipment’s. For insulation thickness
24
follow the Quanta insulation table or as per agreed insulation standard with client.
25 All the equipment’s to be isolated with at least one isolation valve (ball or other depend on service and line size).
26 Valves to be provided based on operation and maintenance point of view. (It should be at operating level)
27 Wherever two or more liquid lines are connected, provide individual isolation valves in all lines.
Whenever U-loop to be shown provide drain valve, similarly for inverted U-loop provide vent valve or vapor
28
equalization line with equipment.
In suction line of pump, provide isolation valve, strainer, drain and reducer. In discharge line, provide expander,
29 NRV, PG and isolation valve. (For Slurry lines Strainer and NRV will not be used). For metering pump, show
suction and discharge dampener and no NRV at discharge.
30 Close loop sample point or open loop sample point to be provided at the discharge header of pump.
31 For steam service, provide piston valves for isolation at inlet line. Provide steam trap in outlet line.

For Steam/condensate services piston valve is recommended, If client do not want to go with piston valve,
32
then up to 150 ball valve and more than 150 gate valve is recommended.
For inlet liquid utility lines (CWS, CHWS etc.) show isolation ball valve and drain. In outlet lines, show vent,
33 TRV, TG, and isolation globe valve/ butterfly valve. Drain and vent location may vary based on utility
inlet/ outlet allocation (top or bottom).
For cooling water supply and return to heat exchanger check flushing arrangement required or not. It depends on
34
the type of the project.
Provide instruments like flow meter FT (mass, magnetic, rotameter, vortex flow meter etc.) , temperature
35 transmitter (TT), pressure transmitters (PT), temperature gauge (TG), pressure gauge (PG), control valve,
on-off valve etc. along with unique tag number based on process requirement.
Check requirement of isolation valves with bypass line, expander/reducer and drain for flow meters (except
36
orifice flow meter) and control valve. No need to provide drain for rotameter.
Provide vent between isolation valves when control valve or vortex flow meter is used in gas/ vapor
37
(e.g. steam) service.
38 Provide proper symbol for instruments from legend sheet along with electrical signal, soft link, pneumatic signal etc.
39 Provide solenoid valve on control valve when interlock is acting on it.
Provide necessary interlocks for level control, flow control, pressure control, temperature control depending
40
on requirement. Show details in Interlock list description table.
41 Check for arrow of interlock (in or out).

Show symbol of interlock on generating instruments like FT, TT, LT and PT etc. along with acting instruments
42
like control valve, pump or on-off valve.
43 Mark interlock and its description in same P&ID and related another P&ID.
General interlocks: (1) Dry run protection of pump (trip pump at low low level of vessel/ tank) and (2) Feed
44
pumps and valves close on high high level in vessel/ tank.
Special process requirements to be conveyed by notes. Show clear notes as per requirement. Note no. to be
45
marked in P&ID wherever is applicable.
46 Notes to be provided as per Piping, Civil, Operation, Maintenance or other requirements.
Important notes: (1) Vent at high point safe location, (2) Elevation requirement from tank/ vessel bottom for
47

48 Equipment PDS to be checked for process requirements and show as notes.
Show package unit as black box in first revision. Provide details from vendor documents like P&ID, GA
49
in next revision.
Tie in, utility requirements, drain, vent, PSV outlet etc. to be checked for package units. Study scope of supply
50
