Lesson
Identifying Possible Solutions to
4 Problems

Reading is very important to every learner because it involves word recognition,

fluency, comprehension and motivation. In order to find a problem or solution
on a certain text or passage, reading is inevitable.
There are some pictures, sentences, paragraphs and stories which can be
considered in finding possible solutions to the problem.
This lesson will enhance your knowledge to determine what problem and
solution means.
Problem is defined as a matter or situation regarded as unwelcome or harmful
and needing to be dealt with and overcome, while solution means solving a
problem or fixing a difficult situation.
In finding the possible solutions to the problem, you should read the story with
comprehension, and analyze pictures keenly for answering questions.

What’s In
Look at the picture. Because of the coronavirus
pandemic, face to face classes at school is not
allowed. How can we prevent being infected by
this virus that is widely spreading all over the
world? What are the possible solutions can you
give about the picture?

From the picture and questions presented

above, analyze what is the problem and give possible solution by completing
the graphic organizer in your paper.

If you have identified what is the problem and give solutions, you would know
that problem is defined as a matter or situation regarded as unwelcome or
harmful and needing to be dealt with and overcome, while solution means
solving a problem or fixing a difficult situation.

Let’s have a simple exercise. What is the

problem you can depict from the picture below?
Give the possible solution by reciting it in
front of your parents, guardian or siblings
you are with.

What’s New
Now, let us read a poem. Then, answer the questions in your notebook.

Problematic Mother Earth

Vivien F. Eulalia

Before, Mother Earth was beautiful

With her rivers, and seas fish-full
Mountains are filled with strong and tall trees
That prevent flood in communities.

Now, Mother Earth is struggling and slowly

dying
Cutting trees is what illegal loggers are doing
Garbage and pollution are everywhere
But only few people are aware.

1. What is the title of the poem?

2. What is the problem mention in the poem?
3. What would you do to solve the problem in the poem?
4. How many stanzas does the poem have?

You can answer the possible solutions to a problem by reading the poem with
comprehension and answering the questions afterwards.
Our environment or Mother Earth getting polluted is a problem because no
one can live comfortably in pollution. People can lessen pollution by doing
ways in order to avoid it.
Problem is an issue or difficulty that is wanted to change or fix while the
solution is the way to solve or fix it. Remember, there might be more than one
solution to a problem.

5
What is It
Now, let us read a story this time. But before that let me ask you, what is your
ambition? What are you going to do to achieve your ambition as you grow
older?
Today you are going to read the story about Andrea who wants to become a
teacher someday. Let us find out if Andrea achieves her dream to become a
teacher.
Andrea

Andrea is in the third grade. She was a very bright pupil. She received
several class awards and honors when she was a grader. She even applied to be
a scholar to pursue her studies until she deserved the scholarship and the
financial support given from her sponsor. She did her best to finish her
schooling. From then, she had overcome all her sacrifices. She is kind and
responsible. Her father was a tricycle driver. Her mother was a housekeeper.
She helped her mother in doing household chores. They live in a simple life.
As she started her schooling, her ambition is to become a teacher,
because she wants to teach young children and help her parents. But she is
wondering how she will continue her studies if her father is just only a tricycle
driver. It bears in her mind that she can achieve her dream. What she did is, she
goes to school every day. She listened well to her teacher. She tries to answer
all questions asked to her diligently. At home, she studied her lesson before
going to bed. She does her homework neatly and well. Inspite of their simple
living, she is very happy because she is a college graduate now.
Answer the following questions. Choose your answer in the box below.
Write it in your notebook.
