COURSE OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
8.2A-use print or digital resources to determine the meaning, syllabication,
pronunciation, word origin, and part of speech;

8.5-Comprehension skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking using


multiple texts. The student uses metacognitive skills to both develop and deepen
comprehension of increasingly complex texts

8.6- Response skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking using multiple
texts. The student responds to an increasingly challenging variety of sources that are
read, heard, or viewed. The student is expected to:

8.8- Multiple genres: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking using multiple
texts--genres. The student recognizes and analyzes genre-specific characteristics,
structures, and purposes within and across increasingly complex traditional,
contemporary, classical, and diverse texts. The student is expected to:

8.9-Author's purpose and craft: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking
using multiple texts. The student uses critical inquiry to analyze the authors' choices
and how they influence and communicate meaning within a variety of texts. The
student analyzes and applies author's craft purposefully in order to develop his or her
own products and performances. The student is expected to:

MODULE/WEEK 1
Topic Developing and sustaining foundational language skills
This week we will cover new and ambiguous words using the dictionary and online
resources. This relates to the whole class because we start by building the langue
skill before our readings.

MODULE/WEEK 2
Topic: Comprhension skills
This week we will cover how to make an inference and how to support our
inferences by using evidence to support.Inference making is a good skill that all
good readers need to posess to comprehend texts.

MODULE/WEEK 3
Topic: Comprehension skills: connections
This weel we will be making personal connections to ourselfs and society through
text. This realtes to the unit because we learn better when we as readers make
personal connection to what we are reading.

MODULE/WEEK 4
Topic: Response skills : using text evidence
This week we will focus on using text evidence to support our responses through
text dependent questions. This related to the unit because we a good readers must
be able to support our response with accurate evidence.

MODULE/WEEK 5:
Topic: Response skills , paraphrasing and summarizing
This week we will be paraphrasing and summarizing text in logical order. This
realtes to the unit because good readers will be able to make effective summaries.

Topic: Mulitiple genres

This week we will analyze the structural elements of argumentive texts. This relates
to the unit by providing the reader with tools to identify claims and counter claims
as it realates to the text.

MODULE/WEEK 7
Topic: Authors purpose
This week we will be explaining the authors purpose for writing a given text, and
the message within the text. This reates to the unit by giving the reader a deeper
understanding to the authors purpose .

MODULE/WEEK 8
Topic: Authors craft
This week we will desicbe how the author uses figurative langue for example an
extended metaphor to achive specific purpose. This will conclude the unit and give
readers an understanding of the text as a whole.
