DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 9

I. Objectives

After an hour of discussion about Angle of Depression, 85% of the Grade 9 students should be
able to do the following with 80% level of success.

a.) To identify what is the Angle of depression.

b.)To determine illustrate problems involving angle of depression.

c.)Solve problems involving angle of depression.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Angle of Depression
Reference: Mathematics books

Materials: cartolina, cardboard, marker and powerpoint.

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Preparation
“Good afternoon class.” “Good afternoon Ma’am.”

“Let us all stand and pray.” (One student will lead the prayer)

(Checking of attendance) (Students raise their hand and say

present as the teacher calls in their
…..say present…. Names.)

Before we start our lesson, kindly pick up (The students will do it.)
the pieces of paper under your chair.

Do not turn off your camera so that we can Yes ma’am!

see each other even through online class.

Class, before we start our lesson, let’s have

some review about our lesson yesterday.
What is our lesson yesterday?

Yes Lisa. About Angle of Elevation ma’am.

Very good!

What is angle of elevation? Yes Ana. Angle of elevation is an acute angle formed by
the eye level (horizontal line) and the line of
sight of the observer when he looks at an object
that is located higher than him.

Very good!

And how about the steps in in solving math

problems involving angle of elevation?

What is the first one?

Yes (name of the student). Draw an illustration that visualizes the problem
and label it using the given information.
Very good! What about the next one?
Yes (name of the student). Formulate a ratio of a given measure and the
representing what is being asked in the problem.
That’s great! And the third step?
Yes (name of the student). Form an equation using the formulated ratio and
the trigonometric function defined by the ratio
Excellent! The next one is what?
Yes (name of the student). Solve the solution of the equation and the
solution of the problem.
Very good! And for the last step?
Yes (name of the student). Label your final answer correctly.

Presentation
For our lesson for today class, we have an
angle of depression.

Do you have already heard or any of you None ma’am.

have an idea about this topic?

Angle of depression is an acute angle

formed by the eye level (horizontal line)
and the line of sight of the observer when
looking at an object that is located lower
than him.
Try to look at this illustration.

What can you say about this illustration?

Yes Mica. The angle of depression, the line of sight of the
observer is located lower than him ma’am.
Very good!

The angle of depression can be found

using any of the trigonometric functions.

To make you more understand, let us have

a set of examples.
Did you get it class? Yes ma’am!
Let’s have another example.
2.

Do you understand it class? Yes ma’am!

That’s great! And for our last example.
3.

Is it clear now class?

Yes ma’am!
Comparison and Abstraction
Again class, angle of elevation is an acute
angle formed by the eye level (horizontal
line) and the line of sight of the observer
when he looks at an object that is located
higher than him while angle of depression is
an acute angle formed by the eye level
(horizontal line) and the line of sight of the
observer when looking at an object that is
located lower than him.

Generalization

Do you understand now class? Yes ma’am!

Again, what is an angle of depression?

Yes (name of the student). angle of depression is an acute angle formed by

the eye level (horizontal line) and the line of
Very good! sight of the observer when looking at an object
that is located lower than him.

Application

Now that you understand the lesson, let’s

have an activity.
On your book, answer pages 134-135 The students will do it.
Letter A, and numbers 1 and 7 on a one
whole sheet of paper.
Yes ma’am!
Are you done class?

think you already understand our lesson.

Will you please get one half sheet of paper
for your quiz.
IV. Evaluation

Illustrate and solve the following problems involving angle of depression.

1. As observed from the top of a 60 m high light house from the sea level, the
angles of depression of two ships are 28 and 45 . If one ship is exactly
behind the other on the same side of the lighthouse, find the distance
between the two ships.

2. An airplane at an altitude of 1800 m finds that two boats are sailing towards it
in the same direction. The angles of depression of the boats as observed from the
airplane are 60° and 30° respectively. Find the distance between the two boats.

V. Agreement

Make a review about angle of depression for tomorrow we will be having a graded recitation.
