1. TETRAPOD

1.1. General View

TTP will be installed both at seaside and harbuor side of the breakwater as show in Figure ??.

Production

1.2.1. Cement

The cement will be supplied from the local factory vendor approved by the Client. And it will be
in accordance with the Vietnam standard or as prescribed in the technical specifications and will
be supplied in bulk and deposited into the silos of the batching plants.

Cement in bags may also be an alternate form of supply to site for finishing or plastering of
concrete, other small onsite hand mixed concreting and non-structural concrete works.

1.2.2. Aggregates

The aggregates for concrete will be supplied from Daewoo’s owned crusher plant or from the
approved local aggregate supplier.

Raw materials for sand and aggregates production will only be taken from approved quarries or
from local supplier. QA/QC tests will be carried out as per scheduled frequencies for all sources so
as to maintain quality and to meet the standard of the technical specifications for producing
quality sand and aggregates.

The heavy aggregates for the fabrication of tetrapodes (TTP) will come from the locations
specified in the Contract or as directed by the Client.

At the onset, QA/QC testings will be carried out on the proposed materials and trial mixes will be
carried out to ensure compliance with the technical specifications and obtain the Engineer’s
approval.

1.3. Production of Concrete

Daewoo will install batching plant with 180 m3/hr. capacity at the site with 2 units of 500 ton silo

and sedimentation facility.

This unit will be equipped with sensors indicating and controlling the automatic adjustment of
mix design according to the water content of the sand and aggregates.

If incase the unit will encounter maintenance or unexpected breakdown and repair during
operation, Daewoo will immediately in advance source out ready mix concrete outside the local
vendor nearby.

1.4. Transportation of the concrete

Daewoo will facilitate 6~7m3 mixer trucks in transporting the concrete from batching plant to
designated location on site.

1.5. Production of Tetrapod

1.5.1. Daily production Plan and Casting Yard

The daily required quantity and casting area for the fabrication of Tetrapod will be based on the
program schedule. The required casting platform shall be levelled, compacted well and paved with
concrete if necessary.

1.5.2. T.T.P. Formwork

The T.T.P.’s forms will be made of steel and it is estimated that the curing time for handling will be
2 days. Therefore, one set of forms consists of 4 parts of shell type of wall form and 2 foundation
forms. Three windows (funnels) will be made on the surface of wall form for release of air bubbles
during pouring concrete for TTP.

Figure 3: T.T.P. steel moulds/ formworks’ Removal

Daewoo will use crane for dismantling and assembling the forms. The dismantling of forms will be
carried out when the concrete strength reaches 7 Mpa and 15 Mpa for handling TTP or in
accordance to what is prescribed in the technical specifications.

The fabrication of TTP shall be organized considering the curing of concrete and access to
different zones to pour concrete and dismantle formwork etc.

1.5.3. Pouring and Compaction of Concrete

Daewoo will use pump car to avoid segregation in pouring the concrete. Mechanical, electrical or
pneumatic concrete vibrator will be used for compacting the poured concrete. Concrete vibrators
will be inserted through the window of T.T.P. form when pouring concrete.

1.5.4. Transportation of T.T.P.

Tetrapods will be transported from the casting yard to the site through loading jetty or directly to
the site.

Daewoo will use crane and a flat barge in transporting the T.T.P. from the casting yard to the
loading jetty on sea, while truck trailers will be used for land transportation.

1.5.5. Placing of TTP

The TTP will be installed by cranes on the barge or on land depending on which procedure is
best suited.

Daewoo will ship the cured TTP at 28 days after pouring on the barge at temporary jetty. Pre-
determined placing grid of each block will be adopted and the position of TTP will be determined
by triangulation using the x and y co-ordinates of the cable or tip of the crane jib from which the
block is suspended. The underwater positioning will be assisted by divers to verify correct setting
of TTP or using computer-assist monitoring instrument.

The first layer of TTP shall be laid carefully and accurately as it will act as base pattern of the
succeeding layers. Therefore, keen attention shall be paid to this first layer’s correct orientation.
The next layer will be laid over the previous layer to fit to key joints. All the works will strictly
comply with the specifications. A detailed construction plan will be prepared separately in drawing
form for Client’s perusal and approval.
