INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA LEARNING COMPETENCIES

 The Algebra 1 course, often taught in the 9th grade, covers Linear equations,


inequalities, functions, and graphs; Systems of equations and inequalities;
Extension of the concept of a function; Exponential models; and Quadratic
equations, functions, and graphs.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The subjects begins with more advanced manipulation of algebraic expression such as Factoring and
Special Products, Simplification of Rational and Radical Expressions, proceeds to Solution of Quadratic, Rational,
and Radical Equations. Likewise, the topic of variations.

COMPETENCIES

1. Identify kinds of polynomial.


2. Multiply polynomials
3. Factors completely different types of polynomials (polynomials)
a. with common monomial factor,
b. difference of two squares,
c. sum and difference of two cubes,
d. perfect square trinomials, and
e. special forms and grouping.
f. solves problems involving factors of polynomials.
4. illustrates rational algebraic expressions.
5. simplifies rational algebraic expressions.
6. performs operations on rational algebraic expressions.
7. solves problems involving rational algebraic expressions.
8. applies the laws involving positive integral exponents to zero and negative integral exponents.
9. illustrates expressions with rational exponents.
10. simplifies expressions with rational exponents.
11. writes expressions with rational exponents as radicals and vice versa.
12. derive the laws of radicals
13. simplifies radical expressions using the laws of radicals.
